An essential job function of the MEMS product/test engineer is the implementation and maintenance of systems to monitor, organize and report production data of packaged MEMS pressure sensor devices at the production and test facility selected by SMI in Milpitas. These MEMS pressure sensor devices are mainly sensor systems consisting of an SMI pressure sensor die and a signal-conditioning ASIC in an SMI custom package. He/she will be responsible for supporting the production test of packaged pressure sensor devices by improving and maintaining the test programs and tester hardware of the current production processes. The MEMS manufacturing test engineer will also be involved in software and hardware improvements of existing testers.  This position will be in Asia to support our test equipment at our sub-contractor assembly houses




  • Implement and maintain test systems to monitor production data and create regular reports concerning yields, trends and process control parameters (i.e. SPC).
  • Implement and maintain organization of the data storage of the production test systems.
  • Interface with operations and engineering in case of test, process or product issues.
  • Evaluate and implement sensor systems calibration schemes.
  • Lead test time and cost reduction efforts.
  • Improve packaged parts test systems (hardware and software) to ensure and increase productivity in a fast-paced production environment.
  • Support and monitor test systems at assembly and test subcontractors abroad.
  • Support production by evaluating problem lots and by defining corrective actions to improve production processes.
  • Serve as product engineer for newly released pressure sensor systems as well as legacy products.
  • Qualification of new production equipment and engineering support of existing equipment
  • Disposition of non-conforming material, use of problem-solving techniques and support failure analysis
  • Maintain all GR&R’s and calibrations for all test equipment
  • Implementation of Poke Yoke to eliminate cause of failures


Education, Skills and Experience Required


  • A BS degree in Electrical Engineering is required.
  • 3 to 5 years of related working experience are required.
  • Experience in working with production test systems and process control.
  • Data analysis skills (theoretical skills, as well as software skills).
  • Programming knowledge.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams is required.
  • Experience with semiconductor, sensor and/or MEMS testing is required.
  • Ability to draft, publish and present test results and conclusions in customer-ready reports.
  • Experience with formal release of process, product, and procedures
  • Knowledge of DOE, ANOVA, and SPC in production environment
  • Good communication skills with project management and multi-tasking ability
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, Access, Power point), Visual Basic
  • Self-Starter, self-motivated, with the ability to work effectively with minimal oversight and instruction


ADDITIONAL DESIRED Skills and Experience

  • MS degree is desired.
  • Basic LabVIEW skills.
  • Experience with STDF test data format.
  • Experience with test automation is desired.
  • Basic knowledge of sensor calibration processes and signal-conditioning ASICs.
  • Hands-on experience with bench top setups as well as “rack and stack” test systems.
  • Experience with MEMS devices especially pressure sensors, accelerometers fabrication
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 13485 or TS 16949 quality systems

Experience with Failure analysis
