Staff Manufacturing & Process Development Engineer

Job Overview

TE Connectivity in Winston-Salem, NC is looking for a Staff Manufacturing Engineer to launch and lead projects for new HCR & LSR molds, diecast molds, and/or thermoplastic injection mold builds. Create RFQ and mold specifications on prototype and production molds. Work with product engineers and customers on refining the plastic part design to achieve and/or make improvements to manufacturability. Utilize engineering tools such as MoldFlow to optimize gate location, melt delivery system, and TIPM to compensate for warpage and shrinkage effects. Participate in and lead Mold Design Reviews with internal and external mold tooling suppliers. Specify, quote, and procure new Injection molding machines and auxiliary equipment for the manufacturing plants. Work with Process Engineers to develop and optimize the initial molding processes on new molds using SIM principles and cavity pressure transducer technology. Analyze and interpret CT Scan data of molded parts using Volume Graphics software.  Work on disposition and prepare conditioning plans; direct mold suppliers to correct non-conforming dimensions on new molds until they meet product drawing and PV test requirements. Work with other engineering disciplines on the launch team to ensure all product requirements are met all the way through to the final sellable part or assembly. Work with Quality Engineering to develop the Process Flow, PFMEA, and Control Plans.  Advise and lead Process and Tooling Technicians on process and tooling related issues that need to be addressed. Facilitate mold design reviews with internal and external mold tooling suppliers. Work with Launch Team and Sustaining Engineers to ensure that all product and process requirements are met; then release the molds and process to the sustaining organization.  Work closely with tool-makers to improve and document mold design Successfully Demonstrated Practices. Utilize Model Based Definition process for product and tooling development, working closely with Product and Mold Engineers to develop and maintain accurate information in digital format for entire product lifecycle.

What your background should look like:

Minimum Requirements: Master’s degree in Plastics Engineering or related discipline, or foreign equivalent            

Special Requirements: Education, training or experience must include: 1) in-mold pressure sensors; 2) Scientific Injection Molding Principles including Decoupled-2 & Decoupled-3 molding processes; 3) mold making; 4) PTC Creo or SolidWorks utilizing 3D modeling capabilities including Part, assembly, and drawings; 5) Volume graphics and Inspection techniques for molded components; 6) PDMLINK; 7) geometric tolerance techniques; and 8) flow simulation using software including Autodesk MoldFlow or MoldEx 3D.
