Sr Manufacturing & Process Design Engineer

Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control. They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They support Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling/products/prototypes. They also design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, support supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.

Role Details

The Industrial Business Unit of TE Connectivity has an opportunity for a Manufacturing Development Engineer for our Device team. This position will be located in North America, Winston-Salem, NC or Harrisburg, PA.  This position will be responsible for the development of manufacturing solutions that leverage standardized platform designs to build scalable, flexible and reconfigurable equipment. In this role, you will work with the New Product Design team on new product introductions ensuring design for manufacturability, and design for automation opportunities. You will work with the business unit to also support initiatives for value add / value engineer, and material and process productivity.

Key responsibilities for this position may include, but are not limited to, the following:
•    Responsible for all aspects of assembly tooling and process development: concept, quoting, purchasing, design reviews, build, conditioning, validation, approval and production release
•    Design and complete capability studies / process and tooling validations to ensure capable processes.  Familiarity with measurement system analysis tools preferred.
•    Provide feedback to Development and Product Engineering where design issues exist that limit manufacturability, quality, reliability, or keep cost targets from being met
•    Work to develop, improve, and implement safety controls in manufacturing
•    Ability to proactively drive projects with minimal guidance or supervision
•    Ensure product, tooling, and process documentation meet all TE Quality and Engineering system requirements
•    Evaluate and recommend changes to new and existing assembly processes and tooling design to ensure that manufacturing capabilities meet the maximum capacity and cost objectives for the business unit
•    Initiate and review design and process constructions and/or major modifications
•    Implement controlled process to collaborate with ECOC on pending design changes
•    Work with global assembly center of excellence to ensure technology sharing and deployment across business units
•    Participate in management meetings to identify standard process approaches and to identify key technology needs to reduce costs or capture new markets.


What your background should look like:

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or similar field
•    Progressive experience in assembly processes including tool design, processing, and machine construction/repair.
•    Capable of taking assembly projects from concept through approval.
•    Working knowledge of CREO and other 3D modeling systems
•    Working knowledge of robotics (SCARA and 6DOF), machine vision, and servo-controlled machines
•    Working knowledge of LEAN and Six Sigma principles
•    Working knowledge of design techniques that facilitate rapid prototyping such as 3D-Printing of resins and metal; as well as quick-turn subtractive techniques.
•    Understanding of TE core processes (i.e., molding, stamping, plating, assembly)
•    Proven and effective problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
•    Self-directed and highly motivated
•    Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills; Confidence and ability to effectively communicate
•    Must be willing to participate in teleconference meetings to accommodate other time zones
