Job Overview

The Industrial Plating Development (IPD) team is currently seeking a highly motivated engineer to be part of an innovative team that works on developing new technologies for our manufacturing facilities around the world. This opportunity will provide you with global experience working on high impact and high-profile projects for TE’s Industrial business unit. The team will work closely with TE’s technology teams to deliver enhanced manufacturing capabilities to improve productivity of existing processes and implement the next generation of manufacturing & digital technologies.

 

The IPD team provides turnkey solutions for new innovations from development to deployment as well as onsite support for the plating manufacturing plants. You will have access to development and manufacturing lines for testing new technologies therefore hands on work in such environments is expected. The full-time position will be located in Winston-Salem, NC or Hermosillo, Mexico with global travel to the manufacturing facilities.
 

What you'll be doing:

Responsibilities Include:  

 

•    Develop and deploy new plating technologies for the manufacturing plants within the business unit
•    Design and implement digital factory for plating in various global manufacturing settings  
•    Responsible for all phases of the development process, from concept, design, through process release to manufacturing plants
•    Provide controls engineering and expertise during development of new plating technologies along with mechanical and chemical engineers
•    Be hands on to run experimental trials with the various manufacturing technologies in a chemical environment
•    Interact with vendors, manufacturing teams, and other engineering functions as required to support process development
•    Determine specifications, perform engineering analysis, create preliminary designs, coordinate, and support pre-production fabrication and testing
•    Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
•    Produce technical documentation, detail design drawings and requirements for production
•    Document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems
•    Assist in development of project plans, including task definition and resource estimates
•    Provide onsite technical support for Industrial manufacturing facilities globally when required

 

Additional Responsibilities:

 

•    Provide information on new technologies and development projects to the plating Center of Excellence (CoE) and other manufacturing facilities within TE
•    Have regular discussions on project progress with involved parties
•    Adopt and adapt to relevant engineering standards and agency practices
•    Submission of preliminary invention disclosures detailing technical aspects of novel concepts 
•    Grow professionally into a technical expert and deployment leader for the next generation of manufacturing technologies 
•    Willingness to travel globally for extended durations when needed and interest in working hands on in a manufacturing environment are key requisites
 

What your background should look like:

-    Minimum of B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Electro-Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical and Computer Engineering
-    5 -10 years of engineering experience focused on industrial control system design
-    Experience in the development of industrial machine controls
-    Experience in Python a plus as well as other machine languages

-    Experience in most of the following:
  o    Microcontrollers and microprocessors and associated firmware development (C, C++)
  o    Servo, Stepper, AC, DC, and other motors and controllers used in industrial machinery
  o    Power distribution
  o    Variety of sensors used in machine control
  o    Panel layout, cable design and routing
  o    Schematic design
  o    Embedded Motion control software: Beckhoff TwinCAT III, Trio Motion Perfect, basic PLC ladder or structured text
  o    Familiar with Wonderware, Ignition HMI
  o    Drive for digital readiness, integrate systems
  o    Artificial intelligence/ machine learning concepts
  o    GE Fanuc PLC, Emerson PLC, Allen Bradley, Siemens PLC program experience
  o    Selection and sizing of electrical components commonly used in industrial controls

 

-    Experience with Creo, 2D AutoCAD or 3D-CAD Systems preferred
-    Familiar with schematic and PCB layout software
-    Designing machinery for placement the global market, with a strong understanding of CE


-    Working knowledge of associated tools and techniques, including
  o    Risk assessment
  o    Safety control systems
  o    Safety system integrity
  o    Technical construction file documentation

 

-    Strong communication skills to present concepts to team members and management, while defending your decisions and selling your ideas for the successful implementation of new products and processes.
-    Propensity for learning new skills and improving personal development.
-    Possess a strong mechanical aptitude
