Job Overview

 As a Product Development Engineer in TE Connectivity’s Signal and Power Connectivity (SPC) team, you will play a key role in enabling customers to succeed in the rapidly evolving automotive connectivity market. You will lead challenging new product development initiatives using advanced engineering tools to drive innovative and robust engineering solutions.
In this role, you will be a core member of the product development team, owning activities from early customer engagement through concept development, detailed design, validation, and production release. 
You will work closely with OEMs and Tier 1 customers to understand technical requirements, support RFQs, and translate needs into practical engineering solutions. You will collaborate cross-functionally with design, tooling, manufacturing, quality, and testing teams to ensure successful product industrialization and launch. 

Job Requirements

  •    Lead end-to-end new product development (NPD) activities from early customer engagement through production release. Conceiving ideas and concepts for new automotive connectivity products
    •  Collaborate directly with OEMs and Tier 1 customers to understand technical requirements, support RFQs, and define product specifications. Translate voice of customer (VOC) into robust product designs.
    •   Develop innovative design solutions aligned with customer needs, cost targets & manufacturability 
    •   Perform engineering design and development activities including: 
     •   3D CAD modeling and 2D drawing creation (Creo preferred) 
    •   Tolerance stack-up analysis 
    •    Material selection and design for manufacturing (DFM/DFA) 
    •    Conduct engineering analysis and validation, including: 
    •    DFMEA / risk assessments 
    •    FEA simulations (ANSYS preferred) 
    •    Design verification and validation planning 
    •    Lead prototype development, testing, and design iterations to ensure product robustness 
    •    Release designs for tooling and industrialization, and support tool development and part validation 
    •    Evaluate tooled parts, perform root cause analysis, and drive corrective actions as needed 
    •    Actively support real-time problem solving across the NPD lifecycle, including manufacturing & field issues 
    •    Create and maintain all engineering documentation (drawings, specifications, test plans/reports, etc.) 
    •    Work closely with global manufacturing & suppliers to ensure alignment on quality, cost & delivery targets 
    •    Contribute to continuous improvement, cost optimization, and design standardization efforts
    •    Submit intellectual property disclosures

What your background should look like

 •    Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (Master’s degree preferred) 
•    10+ years of experience in product design and development (NPD/R&D environment) 
•    Experience in design of the connectors and terminals (automotive preferred) 
•    Expertise in 3D CAD (Creo preferred); CAE/FEA tools (ANSYS preferred); DFMEA, DoE, tolerance analysis 
•    Knowledge of materials, manufacturing processes, and tooling 
•    Experience with product validation, testing, and production release 
•    Strong problem-solving skills (5 Why, Fishbone, etc.) with a proactive ownership mindset 
•    Ability to manage multiple projects and work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment 
•    Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills 
•    Familiarity with the automotive connectivity architecture is a plus 
•    Willingness to travel as required to support project and manufacturing needs

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $143,000 - $179,300 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
