Mfg and Process Dev Engineer 1 (Rotational)

Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Rotational program is designed for graduating seniors and early career professionals, this 2-year program accelerates participant’s development by combining intensive on-the-job training, rotations across business units, locations and roles, and exposure to senior leadership.
The role of the Design Engineer is to work with product management and project management to define product performance requirements and then conceptualize and design a product design solution to deliver value to the target markets and customer base.  The rotational program provides the foundation for this role through rotational assignments, a cross-functional group project, three Rotation Week events and functional training.  Each engineer within the rotation program reports to an Engineering Manager who manages the engineer, coordinates and oversees all of their activities.  In addition, within each rotational assignment, the rotational engineer is paired with a senior engineer who provides instruction, provides daily oversight of the engineer and checks their work.  

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide key support for developing / monitoring / sourcing, of assembly manufacturing processes for connector assemblies, including plastic to plastic and metal to plastic products in the Industrial Vehicle market.
  • Could act as lead manufacturing engineer on their assigned team for connector assembly operations and projects working predominately with outside suppliers in development of new equipment.
  • Works closely with Lead Engineers in internal connector product and quality engineering to develop in-house processes and / or external resources to ensure that the design is manufacturable at the best price.
  • Works closely and keeps an open line of communications with the receiving teams to ensure needs are met and deliveries are on time and effective to plant goals.
  • Supports and/or leads prototype process and part development activities on assigned projects and delivery initiatives.
  • Conducts or monitors process FMEAs, failure analysis, vendor audits and is responsible for approving first articles for new products using specific standards and specifications.
  • Supports Lead Engineers on manufacturing facilities installations and providing solutions and incorporating lessons learned of manufacturing issues, for both new and legacy products, along with project management of new product launch.
  • Frequent use and application of technical standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques. Work is predominantly intellectual in nature. Automation and/or tooling design using CAD is required (ProE/CREO/Spaceclaim preferred).
  • General supervision. Work is team oriented, but one often can independently determine and develop approach to solutions. May exercises discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
  • Will periodically support or lead training with production employees on new launch projects within the manufacturing environment.
  • Aware of cultural differences that may exist in business practices and applies them in global interactions.

What your background should look like:

  • Candidate must have a minimum of a BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering / Process Design 
  • Preferred candidate will have 0-2 years of documented manufacturing and manufacturing design experience preferably in assembly processes and manufacturing. 
  • Course work in machine, tool, and fixture design using AutoCAD and/or Pro-E preferred.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office tools such as Excel, Word, Microsoft Project, & Outlook.
  • Strong Project Management, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Passport. International travel required. (Typical travel 10-25%)
  • Individual must be a “Team Player” that can work in a fast-paced environment with multiple changing priorities and be a self-starter.
