R&D/Product Development Technician IV

Job Overview

TE Connectivity has a need for a senior level product development technician/designer that will work with the Automotive New Product Development Engineering group.  This role is essential for the successful launch of charging inlets and their associated wire harnesses for the automotive market.  The applicant will support the design team, utilizing PTC Creo CAD software. This person is expected to recommend design ideas, provide dimensional and tolerance layouts, and work closely with the manufacturing team and the customer to maximize the product performance/manufacturability and minimize the product cost.

The ideal candidate will have previous experience in automotive wire harness design.

A Day in the Life

  • Work closely with the product and manufacturing engineers as part of the design team to develop cable assemblies for the automotive market.
  • Produce accurate solid models, component drawings and assembly drawings utilizing PTC Creo.
  • Work closely with launch and operations teams to ensure designs are optimized for production processes
  • Contribute design concepts to improve quality of product or reduce product cost
  • Assist engineers in creation and routing of engineering changes
  • Manage and maintain CAD models, drawings, and their history by utilizing PDMLink.
  • Determine the appropriate modeling methodology, tolerance strategy and detailing techniques required for each assignment.
  • Work with customers to understand the updates needed as harnesses are launched in production.
  • Ensure design meets customer and internal requirements.
  • Assign part numbers and develop BOM’s.

What your background should look like:

  • Associates Degree in related field.
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in related field.
  • Proficient in CREO: Part, assembly, sheet metal, and drawing experience required.
  • Experience with PDMLINK (WindChill Data Management System).
  • A thorough working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerances.
  • Good problem solving abilities and a creative thinker.
  • Good communication skills and works well in a team environment.
  • Experience with wire harness and associated component design.
