R&D Product Development Engineer II

Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, 3D CAD models, drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product.

 

Job Responsibilities

•    Actively lead and contribute to New Product Development activities
•    Conceptualize designs based on customer requirements using CAD tools like Creo
•    Collaborate with a cross functional global team to refine concepts based on input from various stakeholders such as customers, product management, sales, mold engineers, assembly engineers, quality etc.
•    Perform engineering analysis such as tolerance studies and finite element analysis (FEA) to optimize design
•    Explore various prototyping options such as additive manufacturing, soft tools etc. to prove out design features early in the development process
•    Lead sessions to document design risks using tools like DFMEA
•    Present the proposed design to both internal and external customers as part of the design review process
•    Create 3D annotated models, 2D drawings and engineering bill of materials (EBOM’s)
•    Provide input to the manufacturing team to ensure manufactured parts meet design intent by reviewing Digital Inspection Reports
•    Create test plans to test product to expected requirements using tools like DVPR and PVPR
•    Coordinate testing of parts at the test labs
•    Create required documents such as Application Specification, Product Specification, Instruction Sheet etc.

What your background should look like:

•    Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, BSME or equivalent with concentrations, required
•    Minimum of 3 years of progressively responsible professional level experience in product design, preferred
•    Connector design and manufacturing experience preferred
•    Strong 3D CAD experience/ability to turn customer VOC into concepts, Creo experience, preferred
•    Exposure to Finite Element Analysis tools like Ansys, Creo Simulate or equivalent
•    Exposure to Geometric Dimensional and Tolerancing techniques, ASME or ISO GPS
•    Knowledge of materials; polymers, metals, elastomers
•    Knowledge of manufacturing processes; molding, stamping, machining, assembly, additive manufacturing
•    Self-driven to represent TE Connectivity with solutions to complex problems which require a high degree of ingenuity and innovation
•    Strong Voice of Customer (VOC) skills
•    Excellent communication & presentation skills (oral & written)
•    Detailed oriented with the ability to support multiple projects
