STAFF ELECTRICAL R&D PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER
At TE, you will unleash your potential working with people from diverse backgrounds and industries to create a safer, sustainable and more connected world.
Job Overview
TE Connectivity’s medical business unit is a leader in engineering design and manufacturing within the medical device industry. Specializing in critical components such as metal shafts, polymer extrusions, cable and interconnects and interventional device assemblies, we offer end-to-end solutions—from rapid prototyping to high-volume manufacturing. We are committed to delivering cutting-edge technologies that improve patient outcomes and advance healthcare innovation.
Position Overview
As a Staff R&D/Product Development Engineer in our Advanced Technology team, you will play a key role in advancing cable and interconnect assembly innovations. You’ll focus on researching, identifying, and implementing emerging technology and market trends, while contributing to the strategic technology roadmap for cable-based products. You’ll collaborate with global cross-functional teams and subject matter experts to drive product development forward. This role is based at our Wilsonville, OR facility, and you'll be working alongside team members in Oregon, Minnesota, Ireland and India.
Key Responsibilities:
• Technical Leadership: Technical leadership of multiple advanced technology projects from concept through transfer, ensuring alignment with customer requirements, market trends, and industry standards. Convert customer, market and industry trends into technical roadmap recommendations.
• Innovation & Development: Serve as the team’s subject matter expert on cable and interconnect development including analog and digital interconnect design, modeling and testing.
• Design & Analysis: Experience with a wide range of modeling tools, simulation tools, and test methods to design and analyze electrical components and assemblies. This includes TDR and VNA characterization experience, high speed signal characterization including knowledge of standards and jitter sources, application of transmission line theory, experience with full wave electro-magnetic simulations (using Ansys HFSS, Maxwell and SI Wave), understanding of time and frequency domain characteristics for interconnects and programming skills for test scripts and data analysis. Electrical design with microcontrollers is preferred (embedded systems, architecture, programming, testing using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers).
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Interface directly with cross-functional team members to ensure successful project delivery. Collaborate with engineers in other global locations. Manage project timelines and budgets, ensuring deliverables are met and clearly communicated to stakeholders.
• Documentation & Compliance: Develop and maintain engineering documentation, including design specifications, test plans and qualification reports. Ensure compliance with relevant medical device regulations and quality processes.
• Mentorship: Act as a technical leader, mentoring and coaching junior engineers. Provide guidance and ensure successful knowledge transfer within the team.
What your background should look like:
• Education: Requires a minimum of 8 years' experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6 years and a Master’s degree with degree focus in Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: T=Relevant work experience, with a preference for experience in medical device development.
• Electrical Expertise: In-depth knowledge of electrical interconnect and cable modeling, simulation, design and testing with hands-on experience.
• Analytical tools: Proficiency in design and analysis tools including modeling and simulation software detailed above. Strong ability to interpret simulation and lab data to identify and solve technical problems.
• Project Leadership: Proven experience in technical leadership of cross-functional projects.
• Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with internal teams, customers, and external partners. Drive collaboration with teams across multiple geographies.
• Self-Motivation: Highly motivated, quick to learn, and able to work independently while contributing to team success.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Familiarity with catheter-based medical device design and function and knowledge of medical device regulatory requirements.
• Understanding of EMI/RFI characterization of cables and connectors.
