Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s R&D / Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products, introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release; assist in the qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility studies, testing on new and modified designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements. They create and modify detailed drawings and drafting or conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contribute to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product. Typical fields of expertise include: materials, mechanics and systems, electrical, optics, chemistry, software, automation systems, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of electrical, mechanical and electronic components, products, and their integration into systems.

 

Position Summary:


As an R&D Engineer I at TE Connectivity, you will be part of our Research and Development Engineering Group in Wilsonville, Oregon. You will work closely with current and potential customers to assess design proposals and manufacturing feasibility. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about applying engineering principles to provide innovative solutions to design and manufacturing challenges in the medical device industry.

 

Essential Duties, Responsibilities and Skills:
1. Assist in developing TE manufacturing capabilities to provide customers with the latest industry technology and highest levels of product quality
2. Learn and apply metal manufacturing processes
3. Work cross-functionally with Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, and Quality teams
4. Apply Design for Manufacturing knowledge to contribute to preliminary design proposals
5. Assist in developing innovative solutions to technical problems
6. Participate in conceptualization, rapid prototyping, and manufacturing projects
7. Utilize analytical techniques to support product design optimization
8. Contribute to project prioritization and resource management

What your background should look like:

• Bachelor of Science in an Engineering field
• 0-2 years of related experience
• Familiarity with DFM, Design for Six Sigma, and Design of Experiments (preferred)
• Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines
• Basic understanding of mechanical design, FEA, geometric tolerances, metrology, and metallurgy
• Proficiency in creating and reading engineering drawings (GD&T) and schematics
• Knowledge of CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CREO, etc) preferred
• Strong analytical and trouble-shooting skills
• Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
• Energized and positive attitude
• Experience with manufacturing metal materials and/or medical devices is a plus

 

Preferred Qualifications:
• Laser welding, NiTi Shape set, Centerless and CNC Grinding knowledge and minimum 2 years related manufacturing experience
• Six Sigma Green Belt experience
• ISO 13845 or FDA 21 CFR Part 820 Experience
• Solid modeling/drafting ability (SolidWorks preferred)
• Tooling/Fixture design experience
• Metallurgical experience

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $70,200 - $105,400 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
