Job Overview
The Performance Materials emerging BU requires a Sustaining Product Engineer who will enhance existing heat-shrink tubing from input provided by Product Management, Marketing, customers, Operations, Development Engineers and other employees. The role will also involve maintaining existing heat-shrink specifications, including modifications for new applications consistent with manufacturing techniques and economies. They will also initiate and implement activities to continuously improve quality and cost, enabling customers to achieve optimum performance and safety in harsh environments while meeting the exacting demands of customers at pace. They will be another key expert in the Sustaining Engineering team for multiple heat-shrink product families in the PfM eBU.

Key responsibilities:
Design authority for Performance Materials’ heat-shrink compounds
• Preparation and maintenance of approved compounds list
• Collaborating with Procurement and compounding plants in identifying and evaluating
raw materials due to supply/obsolescence issues and cost-savings or other strategic
reasons
• Determining the final disposition of non-conforming compounds
Design authority for existing tubing products owned by Performance Materials
• Recommending corrective actions following any routine test failures
• Approval and updates of internal specifications, drawings and other product documentation
• Review of qualification reports
• Maintenance of external agency approvals in conjunction with experts from other BUs
as appropriate
• Support internal and external audits.
• Run rationalisation or product extension projects initiated by Product Management
Operations support
• Support the Operations team with plant-related compound/product issues.
• Advise on the effect of processing changes on form/fit/function of tubing products.
Quality support
• Support the Quality Engineering team on complaints in conjunction with Product
Management
NPD/NPI support
• Join and actively participate in project teams as and when required.
Regulatory Compliance and other support
• Collaborating with Sustaining Compliance Engineer and plant EHS to ensure compliance
and safety standards are adhered to.
• Giving technical advice to the Expansion team (in aid of digital transformation activities)
• Supporting the Solutions Centre on external customer queries outside their basic
understanding
What your background should look like
• Degree in Polymer Science/Materials Science, Chemistry or a similar field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
• At least 5 years’ experience in polymer science
• Demonstrable experience of coordinating process trials, verification and data analysis
• Good proficiency (writing and speaking) in English.
• Analytical, methodical and problem-solving mindset
• Pro-active and agile with the ability to react and adapt to changing priorities
• Strong work ethic and ability to work to tight deadlines.
• Ability to manage multiple projects producing clear and concise reports
• Intermediate competency in TE methodology and systems e.g. SAP, TEBIT, TE Project, TEOA,
PDMLink, CPR and PCT
