Staff Field Application Engineer

Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Field Application Engineering Teams work intimately with customers to recommend products and solutions for new and existing applications. They identify new applications, requirement modifications and enhancements to meet customer specifications and conduct on-site installation and service of product and are responsible for all technical aspects of the sales cycle for potential application of company products to meet customer needs, including identifying opportunities; determining solutions; creating demand; preparing detailed product specifications and technical marketing support; ensuring high quality and timely project execution and conducting follow-up technical support. They also approve operational quality of systems and equipment.

This Automotive Americas Sustaining Engineering organization is responsible for supporting over $1 billion in annual sales revenue spanning a wide range of products including (1) high voltage electrification solutions; (2) data connectivity solutions; (3) terminal/connector/header; (4) interior lighting; (5) mechatronics; and (6) sensors. 

The Customer Front-End Engineering team serves as the primary technical interface to automaker OEMs and Tier 1.  This team support the full product life cycle from preacquisition intelligence, acquisition support, product launch and post launch sustaining. 

In this role, the Resident Engineer will serve as the primary technical interface to OEM and related Tier 1 suppliers.  The resident engineer supports four functions: (1) pre-acquisition intelligence; (2) on-site field support; (3) design, release, and maintenance of TE automotive products; and (4) supports quality and cost improvement initiatives. 

A Day in the Life

  • Serve as the primary technical interface to OEM (in particular Tesla) and related Tier 1 automotive suppliers.  This includes residing, at least part time, within the customer location.
  • Lead the release and maintenance of part numbers within the OEM systems database and libraries (2D & 3D CAD).
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationship with product and process engineering at the OEM.
  • Coordinate internal response and support to the customer to resolve open issues.  Internal functions include product engineering, process engineering, quality, account management, operations and supply chain.
  • Listen, understand and translate customer communication into a meaningful direction.
  • Work to identify, define and clarify design requirements.  Support customer DRE with design requirements and system considerations.
  • Drive engineering and process change approval including documentation including pre and post launch activities.
  • Support customer build events and provide technical support as needed; support vehicle assembly plant problem solving.
  • Facilitate customer root cause technical troubleshooting. First responder for quality/design issues on-site as appropriate.
  • Partner with account management, product management and quality teams to ensure a customer focused approach.

What your background should look like:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited institution required.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in engineering product development.
  • Minimum of 3 years in the customer facing role.
  • Must be able to work in the United States without corporate sponsorship now and within the future.
  • No relocation benefit is being offered for this position.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or Masters in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5 years in connection systems space.
  • 5 years experience in sales or business development.

 

Position Criteria

  • Willing to travel 15%.
