Job Summary

The ISG Development Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Senior R&D / Product Development Engineer to support Wire & Cable product development, material qualification, and engineering validation activities in close collaboration with development teams in Fremont, California. Based in Tijuana, this role will be responsible for evaluating alternative material formulations, supporting material change initiatives, executing engineering trials and special manufacturing runs, and strengthening technical capabilities in extrusion, polymer science, and materials engineering. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience in polymer processing, material characterization, and product development within regulated manufacturing environments, preferably in the aerospace, defense, or industrial sectors.

Job Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-Collaborate closely with Development Engineering teams in Fremont to evaluate alternative material formulations and material property performance.
-Support material change initiatives across existing product lines and manufacturing processes.
-Plan, coordinate, and execute engineering trials, pilot runs, and special manufacturing builds to validate new materials and product improvements.
-Operate and utilize manufacturing and testing equipment available at the Tijuana facility to conduct engineering evaluations.
-Provide engineering support for Wire & Cable products utilized in Aerospace, Defense, and Military applications.
-Lead product qualification and qualification-retention activities, including development of test plans, test execution, data analysis, and technical reporting.
-Support Value Analysis / Value Engineering (VAVE) initiatives through material optimization, innovation workshops, experimentation, and validation testing.
-Assist in product compliance activities related to REACH, RoHS, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
-Support product migration, material obsolescence management, and alternative material qualification programs.
-Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on product performance, manufacturability, cost optimization, and process efficiency.
-Work cross-functionally with Product Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, Project Management, and Commercial teams to ensure successful project execution.
-Generate technical reports and engineering documentation to support development and qualification activities.
-Apply structured problem-solving methodologies to investigate and resolve material and process-related issues.

What your background should look like

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in:
Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, Related Engineering or Technical disciplines

Experience
-5 to 7 years of experience in Product Development, R&D, Materials Engineering, or Process Engineering.
-Candidates with fewer years of experience may be considered if they possess strong extrusion expertise.
-Experience working in regulated manufacturing environments.
-Proven experience conducting engineering trials, product validation, and manufacturing support activities.
-Experience supporting products throughout the full development lifecycle, from concept through industrialization, preferred.

Technical Skills

Required:
-Extrusion processing experience.
-Polymer chemistry and polymer material science knowledge.
-Material characterization and testing.
-Product development and engineering validation.
-Technical documentation and report writing.
-Statistical and analytical problem-solving skills.


Preferred:
-Molding processes knowledge.
-DOE (Design of Experiments).
-FMEA.
-Six Sigma methodologies.
-VAVE experience.
-Aerospace, Military, or Space product knowledge.
-Compliance requirements such as REACH and RoHS.

Certifications

-Six Sigma Green Belt preferred.
