Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Tooling Teams perform the manufacturing functions related to metal working dies and tool making. They are responsible for completing all assignments to construct, modify and condition metal working dies and may fabricate new gages, cutting or forming tools and fixtures by analyzing blueprints, sketches, models and engineering or shop specifications. They perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions; recommend revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems encountered; and solve problems relating to unusual materials, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production process. Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area as well as following TE Connectivity's EH&S policies and procedures.

Tasks and Responsibilities

•    Ensures the completion of each tooling project and evaluates its effectiveness
•    Utilize lean tools and techniques to drive out loss and waste: deliver improvements in tool and die
•    Implement and monitor productivity improvements such as cycle time improvements and cost savings opportunities.
•    Ensures team members are continuously learning and cross-training to develop a flexible workforce
•    Establishes methods to meet work schedules and coordinates work activities with other departments
•    Ensures standards for safe working conditions are observed
•    Proficient with 2D and 3D cad software such as Creo and SolidWorks to develop the most efficient method of processing products
•    Recommends methods for improving utilization of personnel, material and utilities
•    Coordinates and implements quality control objectives, activities or procedures to resolve production problems, maximize product reliability or minimize costs
•    Manage spending against budget and in relation to changes in production volume.
•    Set clear performance expectations and goals for group leaders and their teams.
•    Monitor and direct the performance of all manufacturing activities including throughput, cost and waste control, maintenance, quality, inventories control, and meeting budgeted production metrics, while ensuring that all safety reliable methods are in place.
•    Manages employees performing activities in multiple manufacturing disciplines.
•    Acquires resources, provides technical management of personnel, and leads process improvements
•    Ensure all work is completed on time and to specification
•    Responsible for mentoring, leading and supervising up to 30 employees
•    Troubleshooting manufacturing operations, especially machining processes
•    Supervise the production flow within the machine shop, ensuring safety and the efficiency of the entire machine shop area
•    Work with shop floor, manufacturing engineers, and quality teams to resolve reoccurring nonconformance issues
•    Review work order instructions with planners and manufacturing engineers to ensure shop floor technicians have accurate and complete instructions and if necessary, recommend changes
•    Manage cutting tool inventory, monitor tooling costs, and work with the machining teams to provide overall departmental cost reductions
•    Develop and drive shop floor metrics/improvements
•    Develop and drive regular machine maintenance with the maintenance team
•    Coordinate machine supplier support during problematic situations
•    Evaluating team members through mid-term / annual reviews
•    Provide regular reports on productivity status regularly
•    Manage and direct machine schedule changes through critical path situations

What your background should look like:

•    Engineer degree in mechanical or industrial engineering 
•    5 years as Machining supervisor or Production Planner or similar experience.
•    Personal Skills Advanced problem solving and analytical skills required
•    Strong technical aptitude with 5+ years experience working with molds, dies and tooling
•    Detail orientation Intermediary working knowledge of FMEA's is required
•    Working knowledge of SAP highly preferred.
•    Six Sigma certification highly preferred.
•    Must have ability to delegate responsibilities and tasks to maximize the utilization of the team
•    Knowledge of raw materials, quality systems and standards.
•    Knowledge of health and safety standards and compliance.
•    Knowledge of process improvement techniques (Lean)
•    Experience leading machinists and/or technicians to work with support teams on process development and continuous improvement efforts
•    Well versed in GD&T and inspection procedures and processes
•    Experience working with production metrics
•    5 years of CNC machining supervisory experience in a low volume, high mix, and build-to-order manufacturing environment (Great Asset)
