Job Overview

 

TE Connectivity's Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control. They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They support Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling/products/prototypes. They also design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, support supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.

Tasks and Responsibilities

 

- Provides responsive support to the molding department production line to ensure the safe manufacture of quality products to meet on time delivery schedule,
- Provides molding input and best alternatives during part design reviews in order to improve molding part and tool manufacturability for development of new injection‐molded products
- Identifies root cause and implements corrective and preventive measures to improve or ensure product quality across product lines,
- Identifies and leads projects to implement cost reduction strategies such as line flow improvements, process improvements, or part cost down activities
- Ensures that production molding concerns are reviewed, and resolution provided during mold design reviews and documented in the PFMEA,
- Supports NPI and sustaining teams and works closely with Design Engineering and Project Management to smoothly transition new products to production. Provides frequent and appropriate communications with all internal customers
- Follow and support for the realization of the transfer plan, coordinate with the team to insure the SOP intime,
- Provides assistance to Production to ensure adequate equipment, and tooling to support planned molding volumes and molding extension,
- Designs and completes capability studies to ensure processes are capable, and implement corrective actions in case of deviation,
- Works with the Production and EHS department to implement any necessary safety controls and measures,
- Lead the correct implementation of the engineering change initiated by the product engineering team or due to a row material shortage.
- Ensures product documentation (product specification, packaging instructions, local standards,...) and manufacturing processes meet all TE Quality system requirements
- Ensures that processes are documented in a clear and understandable way.  
- Participates in management meetings to identify standard process approaches and to identify key technology needs to reduce costs or capture new markets.
- Stays updated on core competencies and best practices in manufacturing to ensure incorporation into new designs/processes.
- Identifies and researches new processes and equipment to support cost reduction or quality improvement,
- Provides mentoring support to molding technicians and other molding personnel,
- Travel, including to foreign manufacturing locations, is occasionally required.
 

What your background should look like:

 

- Engineering degree in plastic Materials or equivalent experience.
- Horizontal injection molding and Liquid Injection Molding experience preferred.
- Detailed knowledge of injection molding.
- Proven and effective problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communications skills (oral & written).
- Strong Project Management Skills.
- Strong computer skills (word processing, spreadsheets, CAD, project management).
- Ability to work with exposure to factory environment (exposure to polymers, solder fumes, hydraulic, pneumatic, electrical, and heat generating equipment).
