Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Tooling Teams perform the manufacturing functions related to metal working dies and tool making. They are responsible for completing all assignments to construct, modify and condition metal working dies and may fabricate new gages, cutting or forming tools and fixtures by analyzing blueprints, sketches, models and engineering or shop specifications. They perform precision work to exacting tolerances and dimensions; recommend revisions in design and/or substitutions in material based on machinability or fabrication problems encountered; and solve problems relating to unusual materials, machine settings, fabrication methods, and production process. Every team member is responsible for maintaining housekeeping and organization of the work area as well as following TE Connectivity's EH&S policies and procedures.

Tasks Summary and Responsibilities

  • Recommends changes in tooling design, under approval of engineering, to improve such factors as fit and condition of mold to produce a quantity.
  • Develops specifications from general descriptions for specialty tools and draws or sketches design of product.
  • Disassemble complex mold tooling for cleaning and repair.  Cleaning includes disassembly of mold, cleaning each piece of tooling and inspecting for wear and damage.  Details are reworked or replaced as needed.
  • Changeover molds which includes changing out details to change product part configuration.
  • Fits and assembles component parts into mold cavities and verifies dimensions, alignment and clearance.
  • Analyzes and corrects complex mold malfunctions to assure mold will produce acceptable parts.
  • Studies blueprints, determines machining operations necessary and determines proper sequence of operations considering such factors as type of metal, shape of metal, size of part, finish requirements and machining time.
  • Ability to condition new molds.
  • May perform TIG/Laser welding to make repairs to mold tooling, mold frames and other mold parts requiring a fine blend of surface metal that would not distort the finished product.
  • Fabrication and hand fitting of mold tooling.
  • Provides instruction and technical guidance to trainees and/or peers in area(s) of specialty.
  • General housekeeping of work area.
  • Follow company and department guidelines, procedures and policies.
  • Follow safety guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned.

What your background should look like:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in Toolmaker mold maintenance
  • Completion of High School required
  • Automotive manufacturing experience would be an asset
  • Experience with injection mold maintenance and repairs required 
  • Experience in machine shop techniques would be an asset
  • Solid understanding of the injection molding process required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Excel required
  • Proficient reading design drawings and blue prints
  • Basic knowledge of Laser welding be an asset 
  • Ability to work flexible work hours, including unscheduled overtime when necessary required
  • Technical English
