Product Engineering Manager - Fibre Optic

JOB OVERVIEW 

We are seeking a Product Engineering Manager to join our amazing Aerospace Defense and Marine team. This leadership position is responsible for the oversight and management of the development engineering function. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is interested in joining a global industrial technology leader where you will have the opportunity to reach their full potential in terms of career progression. Location : Remote Location UK. Supporting 2 sites Swindon and Hastings.

(travel to both sites will be required particularly in the beginning).

About the Team

Our Product Development Engineering Teams conceive original ideas for new products and introduce them into practice. They are responsible for product development, and qualification from market definition through production and release. Typical fields of expertise include materials, mechanics and systems, optics, packaging, testing and measurement, and manufacturing of fiberoptic components and cables, products, and their integration into customer systems.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee New Product Introduction design/process engineering resources.
  • Create and lead the application of new procedures that drive development engineering activities.
  • Drive continuous improvement to reduce NPI cycle time & improve on-time & on-budget delivery of product development.
  • Manage engineering resource activities.
  • Able to function as a NPI Project Manager with familiarity with MS Project software tools.
  • Assess organizational needs, develops strategy for enhancing staff skills, and execute technical succession plans.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership through the product/process development cycle and recommends design approaches as required.
  • Manage IP associated with the development of innovative new designs (invention disclosures, patent applications, trade secrets, customer agreements, innovation recognition)
  • Oversee interaction of design Engineering team with other disciplines (Marketing, Quality, Operations, Business Development, Corporate Technology, etc.).
  • Communicate technical information and schedule to senior leadership team.
  • Drive development and qualification of the latest breakthroughs in fiber optic connector and cable assembly development and DFA/DFM approaches to bring unique value to RFO customers.
     

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent.
  • Extensive experience in R&D engineering or new product development (NPD) engineering role. 
  • Experience working in supervisory or leadership role or desire to progress to next stage in their career.
  • Background in harsh environment fiber optic connector, harnessing development, cabling applications, manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of relevant Fiber Optic connector and cable test standards and related bodies, along with fiber termination processes a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks, make decisions, and solve problems independently.
  • Ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively.
