We are seeking a Staff R&D Product Development Engineer (PDE) to join our Data and Devices Business Unit. In this role, you will design and develop socket, high-speed connector, and cable assembly solutions from concept through production release. You will transform customer requirements into innovative, practical, and cost-effective designs, ensuring high-quality standards throughout the development process.

Your main responsabilities

  • Lead product development for sockets, high-speed connectors, and cable assemblies from market definition to production release.
  • Collaborate with customers, TE Product Managers, Sales, and Field Application Engineers to capture Voice of Customer (VOC) and translate it into design concepts and specifications.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, mechanical and thermal simulations, and engineering evaluations.
  • Develop detailed designs, including 2D/3D drawings, DFMEA, and tolerance analysis.
  • Build prototypes, perform validation, and complete product qualification.
  • Provide technical support to Operations, Quality, and Production teams for efficient and safe product launches.
  • Resolve product-related issues and manage Engineering Change Notifications (ECN) and Product Change Notifications (PCN).
  • Maintain a system-level understanding of customer applications to deliver optimal solutions.
  • Follow LEANPD Project Process to ensure timely, quality, and cost-effective project completion.
  • Support global manufacturing, procurement, and suppliers to meet technical, quality, and cost objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain technical documentation, including design drawings, specifications, and design history files.

Your ideal background

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
  • 12+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience in electrical components, mechanical structure design, tooling development, or manufacturing process development.
  • Expertise in socket and connector design, material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, and product qualification.
  • Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD tools (e.g., Creo, SpaceClaim) and GD&T.
  • Skilled in finite element analysis (e.g., Ansys Workbench) and understanding of metal behavior.
  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes (machining, molding, stamping, plating, assembly) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
  • Fluent in English with excellent communication skills for global collaboration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with ability to manage complex situations independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering or related field.
  • Familiarity with raw materials, industry standards, and product applications.
  • Proficiency in quality tools (FMEA, Six Sigma, DOE, 8D).
  • Knowledge of contact physics, plating systems, copper alloys, and high-temperature plastics.
  • Understanding of communication theory, impedance matching, and signal integrity.
  • Experience in thermal management for high-speed signal transmission.
  • Strong organizational and presentation skills with ability to manage multiple projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and collaboration tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
