Job Overview

NOTE: This is a global, remote-based role. Ideal candidate locations include China, Taiwan, the United States, Mexico, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and the Philippines. European locations may be considered on a case-by-case basis, with relocation likely required.

 

The Senior Director of High-Speed Cable Design and Manufacturing & Process Development Engineering is responsible for leading both the Design Engineering and Manufacturing & Process Development Engineering (MPDE) teams for high-speed cable (twinax) development.

 

This role ensures strong integration between product development and manufacturing by optimizing designs for performance, manufacturability, quality, and cost. The leader will also drive the advancement of platform technologies to enable next-generation high-speed cable solutions aligned with future market demands.

 

Reporting to the Global Product Development Engineering Leader, this position defines and executes the overall design and manufacturing strategy for high-speed cables. The role is highly cross-functional, partnering with Product Management, Operations, Quality, Sales, and global manufacturing teams to deliver competitive, scalable, and innovative products.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead global design and MPDE teams in developing high-speed cable products and manufacturing strategies.
  • Define and execute the long-term design, manufacturing, and process technology roadmap.
  • Align engineering initiatives with business strategy and market timing.
  • Establish performance goals focused on capability, productivity, and efficiency.

 

Product Development & Manufacturing Execution

  • Oversee end-to-end development of cable designs, tooling, and manufacturing processes.
  • Manage technical risks, resources, and timelines for new product development.
  • Ensure seamless transfer of technologies into high-volume production.
  • Implement and optimize NPI processes and design control plans.
  • Drive Design for Manufacturability, Quality, and Cost (DFM/DFQ/DFC).

 

Innovation & Technology Advancement

  • Develop multi-generation technology roadmaps for data center cable applications.
  • Advance next-generation high-speed cable platforms (224G/448G Ethernet, PCIe Gen 7/8).
  • Leverage advanced manufacturing technologies to improve value and scalability.
  • Establish technology leadership and strengthen IP development.

 

Cross-Functional & External Collaboration

  • Partner with Product Management, Quality, Operations, and Sales.
  • Collaborate across business teams on forward-looking bulk cable roadmaps.
  • Interface with customers during audits and manufacturing reviews.
  • Build strategic partnerships with suppliers to expand capacity and capability.

 

People Leadership

  • Build and develop a high-performing global team.
  • Drive succession planning and talent development.
  • Develop and execute long-term talent roadmaps.

What your background should look like

Experience & Technical Expertise

  • 15+ years leading product and/or process development in high-speed cable manufacturing.
  • Deep expertise in cable manufacturing processes such as:
  • Wire drawing, extrusion, taping, plating/metal finishing, testing, and process control.
  • Proven success scaling high-speed cable products for data center applications.
  • Experience transferring technologies to global manufacturing sites.

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Materials Engineering (Master’s preferred).
  • Leadership & Business Skills
  • Strong business acumen with ability to align technical work to strategic goals.
  • Experience leading global teams and managing complex, cross-functional projects.
  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement.

 

Quality & Operational Excellence

  • Strong knowledge of manufacturing quality systems.
  • Proficiency in Six Sigma and root-cause analysis tools.
  • Experience managing global manufacturing scale-up and process optimization.
