Assistant General Counsel - Intellectual Property / European Lead IP counsel (f/m/d)

Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Intellectual Property Teams develop and maintain company patent applications, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, licensing and research agreements, publications and intellectual property aspects of contracts and agreements, as well as provide input on any other matters related to intellectual property law. Our Teams partner with internal/external departments to lead overall company parts/productions brand protection activities and help us continue to win in all markets.

 

Assistant General Counsel (f/m/d) - Intellectual Property / European Lead IP counsel at TE Connectivity.  

Work location:  Schaffhausen, Switzerland (or Bensheim, Germany)

 

Responsibilities include:

 

  • Counseling and working as a business partner with executive, engineering and business personnel on important IP issues relating to various TE businesses.
  • Leading and directly managing a team of IP counsels, based in Europe, supporting the various TE business units.  Working with the European team of IP counsels to actively participate in patent committee meetings, help manage business unit patent portfolios including supervision of counsel/agents for patent filing/prosecution/oppositions, provide IP trainings, support development of IP strategies, perform IP infringement analysis as well as searching and invalidity analysis relating to product designs.  
  • Managing collaboratively with the team of IP counsels in Europe any IP litigation and IP disputes, drafting/negotiating IP licenses and other IP related aspects of business transactions and other agreements, and supporting IP due diligence activities for mergers/acquisitions/divestitures.  
  • Administration of the implementation of the Inventor’s Remuneration laws for applicable European countries.
  • Contributing to overall responsibility for IP budget and IP expense/invoice management for businesses.
  • Developing and mentoring of IP counsels and IP support staff located in Europe.
  • Reporting to the Vice President & Chief IP Counsel, and serving as part of the IP management team in managing, considering a TE enterprise-wide view, the overall IP law team support with flexible and efficient staffing, both at the IP counsel and administrative team level, and in developing and implementing global operational policies and procedures, and especially within the IP function’s European operations including the development of staff functions.
     

What your background should look like:

 

  • Technical undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics required
  • Must be a fully qualified and registered European patent attorney of at least 12 years of experience 
  • Being a fully qualified and registered German patent attorney is a plus  
  • Deep knowledge of Inventor’s Remuneration laws and required implementation practices.
  • In-house counsel experience desirable
  • Significant experience in successfully negotiating IP transactions/litigations/disputes/conflict matters with third parties including customers, competitors and others to address TE’s business objectives with successful outcomes
  • Significant experience in IP aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including integration experience or divesting experience
  • Must be a business-oriented, proactive IP counselor and team leader
  • Must be a collaborative and strong team player and leader with good communication skills, as the person in this role will work collaboratively with other IP counsels in accordance with TE IP functions, policies and procedures   
  • Native oral and written fluency in both English and German at business/legal level desirable
