Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Intellectual Property Teams develop and maintain company patent applications, trade secrets, trademarks, copyrights, licensing and research agreements, publications and intellectual property aspects of contracts and agreements, as well as provide input on any other matters related to intellectual property law. Our Teams partner with internal/external departments to lead overall company parts/productions brand protection activities and help us continue to win in all markets.

Associate General Counsel - Intellectual Property / Lead segment IP counsel for Transportation Solutions segment at TE Connectivity.  Responsibilities include:

  • Counseling and working as a business partner with executive, engineering and business personnel on important IP issues relating to Transportation Solutions segment businesses.
  • Leading and directly managing the Transportation Solutions team of four IP counsels, globally located, supporting the Transportation segment businesses.  Oversight of the team of IP counsels who actively participate in patent committee meetings, manage segment business unit patent portfolios including supervision of counsel/agents for patent filing/prosecution/oppositions, provide IP trainings, support development of IP strategies, perform IP infringement analysis as well as searching and invalidity analysis relating to product designs.  
  • Managing IP litigation and IP disputes, drafting/negotiating IP licenses and other IP related aspects of business transactions and other agreements, and supporting IP due diligence activities for mergers/acquisitions/divestitures.  
  • Administration of the implementation of the Inventor’s Remuneration laws for applicable European countries.
  • Overall responsibility for IP budget and IP expense/invoice management for Transportation Solutions segment businesses.
  • Developing and mentoring of Transportation Solutions segment IP counsels located around the world, along with other Swiss-based administrative staff members of the corporate IP function.
  • Reporting to the General Counsel of TE’s $8 billion Transportation Solutions Segment and working closely with the Chief IP Counsel and in collaboration with other segment lead IP counsels in managing, considering a TE enterprise-wide view, the overall IP law team support with flexible and efficient staffing, both at the IP counsel and administrative team level, and in developing and implementing global operational policies and procedures, and especially within the IP function’s European operations including the development of staff functions.
  • Technical undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Physics required
  • Must be a fully qualified and registered European patent attorney with at least 15 years of experience  
  • Being a fully qualified and registered German patent attorney is a plus  
  • Deep knowledge of Inventor’s Remuneration laws and required implementation practices.
  • In-house counsel experience desirable
  • Significant experience in successfully negotiating IP transactions/disputes with third parties including customers, competitors and others to address TE’s business objectives with successful outcomes
  • Significant experience in IP aspects of mergers and acquisitions, including integration experience or divesting experience
  • Must be a collaborative and strong team player and leader with good communication skills, as this role involves close interactions and coordination with Chief IP Counsel and other lead segment IP counsels for corporate TE enterprise IP functions, policies and procedures   
  • Native oral and written fluency in both English and German at business/legal level desirable
