SR Manager: NPI / Innovations, Performance Materials

Job Overview

The Functional NPI/Innovation Engineering Leader is a member of the functional engineering management team which is part of the Performance Materials Engineering team. 
This role will own Performance Materials Engineering NPI and Innovation for the global business and will report to the Director of Engineering of the Performance Materials Emerging Business Unit. This position manages all aspects of global Engineering responsibilities relating to NPI, Material Development, and Innovation. Taking ownership of new product development from inception to launch, material development, and Innovation.  
Defining the technology roadmap ensures the alignment to the go-to-market strategies and product roadmap in liaison with Sales, PM, and Marketing. Collaborate with operations to ensure that the technology roadmap compliments the operation strategy and that manufacturing capacity is in place to achieve the technology leap. 

 

•    Sets an Engineering Functional Leader direction and rallies the organization and team around the vision and direction.
•    Cascades the vision and strategy throughout the organization and ties it to clear NPI/innovation deliverables.
•    Develop material science solutions and products to cost. 
•    Present and maintain robust cost status thru the development cycle. Enhancing margin.
•    Delivers multiple NPI projects from inception to launch.
•    Defines a clear innovation pipeline aligned to Sales and PM strategy. 
•    Drives innovation to increase competition.
•    Conceives original ideas for new materials products through the effective voice of the customer, knowledge of the market and thru technical understanding of our competitors.
•    Solid understanding of competitor products and IP positions.
•    Material and design simulation to optimize the design for cost, quality, and manufacturability.
•    Responsible for product development and qualification from market definition through production and release.
•    Creates Customer Innovation/Influencer Relationships; Coordinates Technical Activities and Communications. Defines, coordinates, and drives technical activities from a technical perspective. Driving IP opportunities.
•    Provides all required engineering documentation including, but not limited to, formulations, compounding parameters, Solid Model, 2D production drawings, product specifications, and testing requirements.
•    Submits all IP information to legal according to policy and prior to public disclosure.

•    Demonstrates mastery of product development by integrating deep knowledge of theory and practical experience
•    Advanced material design simulation experience preferred.
•    Develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity and innovation
•    Adapts and makes departures from traditional methods or approaches to developing innovative products
•    Proactive approach to design for cost, quality, and manufacturability
•    Knowledge of Voice of Customer, Design to Value, Design for Six Sigma, LEAN Manufacturing, and LEAN business processes is preferred
•    Excellent verbal and written communications skills
•    Ability to communicate, negotiate and drive results 
•    Must be self-motivated, and organized, with the ability to prioritize, set, and achieve goals and drive improvements in business processes for product development 

Qualifications:

•    Strong engineering leadership experience and experience developing a global engineering team in an innovation implementation environment, leading NPI with experience of implementing multiple projects concurrently into high pace operations environment.
•    Must be a strong leader, motivator, and mentor.
•    Experience in strategic workforce planning and associated development planning
•    Strong business acumen - and a good understanding of technical complexities.
•    Strong customer-facing skills – building technical relationships 
•    Considerable experience working with the product technology, processes, or market.
•    Experience in building and mentoring effective teams
•    Proven ability to deliver results.
•    Mentors and coaches others in BU.
•    Degree in material science, preferred.
