Job Title: R&D/Product Development Technician – Swindon, UK 

 

 

Job Overview
The R&D/Product Development Technician will work closely with Materials Engineers to develop, process or qualify polyolefin, silicone and EPDM materials for energy products. 

 


Job Responsibilities

Responsibilities include: 
•    Work closely with R&D Materials engineers to develop polymeric materials for the global Energy market 
•    Perform mechanical, thermal, electrical and chemical tests 
•    Coordinate aging tests over extended periods of time 
•    Fabricate test samples 
•    Operate roll mill, extruder, mixing and compounding equipment 
•    Obtain and report data to the engineers. 
•    Detect and correct errors in projects or lab environment, and report to the supervisor.
•    Ownership of the assigned lab space and equipment including 5S+1 implementation
•    Ownership of internal mixing and compounding trials
•    Preparation of samples using compression-moulding or lab-scale extruder
•    Setting up and conducting physical, thermal, chemical and electrical testing
•    Independently following internal and external test methods and documentation of test procedures and results in lab notebooks and in digital databases

 

The qualified applicant will be proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel. The applicant should be capable of doing independent work with minimal supervision. Experience with investigative analysis is desired such as microscopic analysis. This role is essential for the successful development of new materials as well as the testing of existing commercial products.

 

 

Qualifications 
•    High school diploma or local equivalent 
•    1-2 years of practical science or materials lab experience

 

 

Key Requirements
•    Working knowledge of Microsoft Office 
•    Basic data analysis 
•    Multitasking: Will work on multiple projects at one time, supporting multiple engineers 
•    Experience with moderately complex polymer mixing, compounding, and thermal, mechanical, and electrical testing is preferred.
•    Detail oriented 
•    Self-motivated 
•    Good communication skills and working well in a team environment 
•    Integrity: Respect data and facts. Strictly follow standards. Objectivity in documenting test results and observations 
•    Organization: Manage projects, test schedules and documentation
