Incoming Quality & Reliability Engineer

Role Description

As Incoming Quality and Reliability Engineer, you will cover all aspects of Supplier procured materials to ensure products comply with the company and industry standard, codes and specifications. You will be responsible for raising, informing, recording, maintaining & advising on supplier related quality problems for the site. You will also be back-up for QE’s during holiday periods, covering minor tasks (containment, system updates etc).

Job Overview

Key tasks of the job:

•    Liaise with internal customers (Operations, Process & Engineering) on issues related to Supplier products ensuring timely escalations & feedback.
•    Raise, issue, record, feedback, review & close supplier complaints ensuring internal & external customers are fully informed within the expected timescales (utilising TECHS).
•    Manage and support supplier complaint investigations, problem solving and root cause analysis to ensure issues are resolved and preventative actions are implemented.
•    Develop and maintain partnerships with procurement, SDE & suppliers providing communication to stakeholders in timely effective manner. 
•    Communicate TE Engineering and Manufacturing specifications to supplier technical teams.
•    Drive and lead MRB weekly meeting & activities ensuring effective communication & disposition in required timescales. 
•    Provide support on New Product Introduction from a supplier standpoint ensuring the completion, implementation and approval of the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP) and First Article Inspeciton Reports (FAIR) 
•    Support & Own specific site CoPQ Scrap Reduction Initiatives and promote / drive “Zero Defect” mentality using proactive tools such as Lean (TEOA), Six-Sigma, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis, Advance Product and Quality Planning (APQP) Statistical Process control (SPC) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
•    Ensure adherence to site CVP (Compliance Validation Process) plan, such that required products are tested to schedule for compliance (e.g. REACH, RoHS) & tracker is maintained.
•    Support with deviations and concessions such that Quality Engineer can engage with timely and detailed communication with internal and external customers.
•    Support external 3rd party Certification Body (CB) audits and internal audit program ensuring effective close out of any Non-Conformances and Opportunities for Improvement
•    Support Operational Tier meetings. Ensuring applicable data is prepared when requested and shared with operations. Provide timely feedback on activities / requirements to Quality team post mtgs.
•    Proactively monitor, review, report & act upon key performance indicator metrics as set by management. Track via relevant media (e.g. TEAMS – Swi Bowler. SharePoint – Quality Bowling Chart)
•    Ensure the applicability & accuracy of current quality policies, procedures, and objectives.
•    Be an active participant and advocate of TE Operating Advantage (TEOA), interact with cross-functional team members to identify gaps and opportunities and drive continuous improvement.
•    Conduct applicable on-site Quality training. Mandatory and developed where required.
•    Provide short term Quality Team cover during planned and unplanned absence for key activities.
•    Carry out any other reasonable request by a member of the management team.
•    Must be able to work under flexible working schedules, including extended working hours as required.
•    Be able to manage own workload and prioritise based on Production requirements
•    Ability to travel to factories and/or supplier locations as needed (estimated to be less than 10%).
•    Understand the site EH&S Policies and Procedures, work in a safe manner at all times and follow health & safety guidelines.
 

What your background should look like:

  • Ideally Degree or HNC in either Industrial, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering or Quality Assurance and/or minimum 5 years’ experience at a manufacturing plant environment in a Quality or Engineering role gained in an aerospace, military or automotive environment
  • Technical by nature with a practical hands-on approach, with ability to read many types of technical drawings and specifications
  • Experience of quality planning and implementation of quality tools (Histogram, Pareto, MSA, PFMEA, Controls plans)
  • Problem solving skills using 8D methods (3x5-Why, Is-Is Not, Ishikawa diagrams and similar assessment tools)
  • Strong knowledge of ISO9001 or AS9100 or IATF16949 in process compliance
  • Product/process validation through known approval systems/processes (FAI, PPAP, APQP)
  • High attention to detail with excellent numeracy, verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to communicate to Internal / External customers & Suppliers at any level
  • Strong team spirit, ability to influence and drive cross functional teamwork, ability to work well with internal and external customers, and with other cultures
  • Organised with high degree of motivation and self-initiative, managing multiple tasks, and can adapt to changing priorities, accomplishing them in a timely manner
  • Strong computer skills including ability to prepare spreadsheets and use of Microsoft Office Product (Word, Excel, Power Point) to analyse data and trends
  • Be able to demonstrate behaviours in line with TE Values and Ethical Conduct
