New Product Development Engineer - Performance Materials

About The Role

An exciting opportunity to join the emerging Performance Materials Team, as part of the Appliances Business Unit. With a strong focus on innovation, you will bring novel products to the marketplace and will play a part in the evolution of the new business unit. You will be expected to bring practical and theoretical expertise in new product development, and work with multifunctional, global teams to bring projects to fruition. 

 

As a New Product Development Engineer you will be responsible for all aspects of new product development including obtaining voice of customer, defining new concepts, new product development and industrialization for a range of applications for instance heat shrink products.

Location : Swindon, UK

Responsibilities

  • Take responsibility for product development and qualification from market definition through production to new product introduction. 
  • Define, coordinate, and drive technical activities to lead project teams from an engineering perspective. 
  • Develop solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of adaptability, creativity and innovation
  • Drive improvements in business processes for product development.
  • Manage multiple priorities, activities and communications to maintain project progress.  
  • Prepare documentation including, for example, product specifications, test plans and production drawings. 
  • Design products to optimise for cost, quality and manufacturability.
  • Collaborate closely with global manufacturing teams. 
  • Contribute to the technical roadmap of the Performance Materials team. 
  • Create customer and supplier relationships. 
  • Submit all IP information to legal according to policy and prior to public disclosure. 

What your background should look like:

  • Demonstrate extensive technical experience in new product development, polymer processing including compounding and extrusion, heat shrink products.
  • Relevant qualification (BA, Masters or PHD) in an engineering discipline; Material Science, Polymer Engineering. 
  • Demonstrate the ability to lead projects through to new product introduction (NPI)
  • Collaborate effectively across various functions. 
  • Demonstrate Problem Solving skills, Creativity, Adaptability and Innovation.
  • Design products to optimise for cost, quality and manufacturability.
  • Must be self-motivated, organized and goals orientated. 
  • Take a proactive approach to design for cost, quality and manufacturability 
  • Knowledge of Voice of Customer, Design to Value, Design for Six Sigma, LEAN Manufacturing and LEAN business processes is preferred
