Job Description:

Job Overview

The Staff Design-for-Reliability Engineer will support development teams across assigned R&T projects to ensure reliability is designed into DDN products. The role involves close collaboration with internal engineering teams and, when required, customers to execute reliability plans aligned with the stage-gate development process.

From design verification through product validation, the Staff Engineer will plan, execute, and analyze reliability tests, including accelerated and stress-based methods such as HALT and HAST. Based on test data, the engineer will identify potential reliability risks, failure modes, and weak design or process elements, and work with cross-functional teams to support corrective actions.
The role emphasizes hands-on reliability engineering, data analysis, and application of structured reliability methodologies (e.g., DFSS, Robust Design) to support data-driven decisions and ensure DDN products meet reliability and customer requirements.

Job Requirements

Education & Experience
•    Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Mechatronics, or related technical discipline
•    10–16 years of experience in reliability engineering for automotive electronics, mechatronics, or similar complex products

Technical Skills
•    Working knowledge of reliability estimation and risk identification methods
•    Experience with FIT estimation methodologies and reliability calculations
•    Knowledge of statistical reliability tools such as Weibull analysis, χ² statistics, basic Bayesian methods
•    Understanding of FMEDA, FTA, random failure principles
•    Experience executing accelerated life tests (ALT), HALT, HAST, and test-to-failure evaluations
•    Gage R&R, MSA, Process Capability Studies

Other Skills
•    Exposure to customer-facing reliability discussions (with support from senior/manager-level engineers)
•    Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
•    Curiosity to understand system behavior and failure mechanisms
•    Good verbal and written communication skills; able to work effectively in cross-functional teams
•    Willingness to travel as required (~15–20%)

We Value

•    DFSS / Six Sigma Green Belt certification (or working toward certification)
•    Familiarity with industry standards such as EIA-364, IPC standards, UL component-level standards
•    Basic knowledge of data center architectures, connectors, wire harnesses, busbars, or high-speed interconnects
•    Exposure to product development environment which includes design, testing and manufacturing.
•    Basic scripting or data analysis skills (e.g., Python, Excel automation, Minitab)

Job Responsibilities

•    Support the design-in of reliability for DDN products from concept through validation
•    Contribute to requirement engineering by understanding load conditions, mission profiles, and environmental stresses
•    Execute reliability test plans aligned with project phase and customer requirements
•    Conduct accelerated testing, stress testing, and test-to-failure evaluations under guidance of senior or manager-level engineers
•    Analyze reliability test data and identify failure modes, risks, and design limitations
•    Perform initial FIT estimations using applicable standards and support final FIT calculations based on test results
•    Assist in defining validation strategies based on application and customer mission profiles
•    Support CAPA activities by analyzing failures and contributing to mitigation and corrective action plans
•    Participate in design reviews and prepare reliability-related inputs and documentation
•    Maintain and update reliability test data, models, and reports in shared databases
•    Collaborate with material, component, and process experts to evaluate reliability improvements
•    Communicate reliability findings clearly within project teams and support customer discussions when required
