Job Overview

The Data and Devices Business Unit is seeking a Sr. R&D Product Development Engineer to lead development of high-speed connector and cable assembly solutions for servers, storage, networking, AI infrastructure, industrial automation, and emerging robotic platforms. This role will own the full product development cycle from market definition and product architecture through design, analysis, prototyping, validation, qualification, customer alignment, and production release. The position requires a senior mechanical engineer who can convert customer needs and market trends into reliable, miniaturized, cost-effective, and differentiated interconnect solutions.
The engineer will generate original product concepts, develop them into practical and manufacturable designs, define specifications, perform engineering analysis, coordinate prototypes and testing, and engage with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, sales, and marketing teams during new product development and launch.

Roles and Responsibilities:

•    Lead end-to-end product development of high-speed connector and cable assembly solutions, with ownership for architecture, design execution, validation, qualification, and release readiness:
o    Partner with customers, Sales, SA, FAE, and PM teams to capture VOC, translate needs into product architecture, and define preliminary product specifications.
o    Conceive concepts and perform feasibility studies.
o    Run mechanical and thermal simulations.
o    Make the engineering evaluation/proposal to the customer.
o    Create the detailed design including 2D/3D drawings and perform DFMEA/tolerance analysis.
o    Build prototype samples and perform validation.
o    Complete product qualification and finalize product specification.
o    Provide technical support to the Operations team including Quality and Production for efficiency improvement and safe launch.
o    Resolve product related issues to closure and manage the ECN/PCN (Engineering Change Notification/ Product Change Notification).
•    Develop market, customer, and application understanding by connecting business opportunities with engineering and customer technical requirements.
•    Translate system-level customer requirements into practical, manufacturable connector and cable assembly concepts.
•    Drive LEANPD stage-gate execution while maintaining commitments on schedule, quality, cost, risk, documentation, and launch readiness.
•    Provide cross-functional technical support for customers, sales, product management, operations, quality, and production teams, including DFMEA, testing, analysis, troubleshooting, and verification.
•    Work with global manufacturing resources, procurement, and outside suppliers to meet all TE technical, quality, and cost objectives.
•    Execute technical documentation to fully detail design drawings and requirements, engineering and product change notices, and design history files.
•    Develop next-generation interconnect solutions for networking, servers, storage, AI infrastructure, industrial automation, robotics, and other high-growth applications.
•    Support development of high-speed interconnect solutions considering mechanical, electrical, thermal, manufacturability, and reliability requirements.
•    Collaborate with Signal Integrity, Electrical, RF, Manufacturing, Quality, and System Architecture teams during product development.
•    Drive miniaturization initiatives for high-density interconnect systems while maintaining performance and reliability targets.
•    Contribute to technology roadmaps for high-speed copper, Single Pair Ethernet (SPE), miniaturized high-density interfaces, hybrid power-signal solutions, and advanced cable assemblies.
•    Support invention disclosures, patent generation activities, and technical differentiation initiatives.
•    Convert customer and market insights into differentiated, patentable product concepts that strengthen technology leadership.

Mandate Skills:

•    Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent work experience.
•    7–10 years of relevant experience in connector, cable assembly, electromechanical product development, electrical components, mechanical structure design, manufacturing tooling, or manufacturing process development.
•    Strong product development experience in connector design, cable assembly design, or electromechanical systems, including material selection, tolerance analysis, DFMEA, qualification, and design release documentation.
•    Experience developing products for high-speed communication systems, data center equipment, networking platforms, industrial automation, robotics, or related applications.
•    Understanding of Signal Integrity (SI), EMI/EMC fundamentals, and high-speed interconnect design considerations.
•    Experience working in cross-functional product development teams involving Mechanical, Electrical, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement, and Supply Chain functions.
•    Ability to understand customer system architectures, convert VOC into product requirements, and lead technical discussions with internal and external stakeholders.
•    Strong analytical skills in product design, problem solving, root cause analysis, and engineering validation.
•    Proficient in 3D CAD applications (Creo preferred) with experience in 3D solid modeling including sheet metal,  2-D drawings, PDM link Data Manager and general knowledge in design applications such as Spaceclaim, Solidworks, or others used only in the concept stage.
•    Proficient in geometric dimensioning & tolerancing (GD&T).
•    Occasional user of finite element analysis software (Ansys, Workbench).
•    Proficient in developing and writing design objectives for product specifications.
•    Basic knowledge in manufacturing process (machining, molding, stamping, plating, assembly, etc.).
•    Fluent in English (both verbal and written) to facilitate global communication both internally and with external customers.
•    Ability to work in a global environment – able to accommodate varying time zones and capable of collaborating with individuals across geographies.
•    Proficient problem solver – able to handle moderate complexity situations and use data analytics and critical thinking to reach logical conclusions with general direction.
•    Proficient using MS office software (Word, Excel, PPT, Outlook, MS Teams, etc.).

Nice to Have Skills:

•    Master’s degree in engineering or related field.
•    Knowledge of high-speed communication architectures, data center connectivity, AI infrastructure, networking systems, or distributed compute platforms.
