SR MGR R&D/PRODUCT DVL ENGINEERING- ME COE

At TE, you will unleash your potential working with people from diverse backgrounds and industries to create a safer, sustainable and more connected world.

Job Overview

As Senior Manager of the Mechanical Center of Excellence (ME COE), you will lead a high-impact, globally distributed team responsible for defining and scaling TE Connectivity’s mechanical engineering capabilities. You will own strategic initiatives across advanced mechanical design, simulation, manufacturability, and reliability for next-generation interconnect and compute systems used in AI data centers, cloud infrastructure, and high-speed platforms.

This role sits within the Office of the CTO and will be critical in driving cross-functional alignment, establishing reusable design platforms, and ensuring TE’s mechanical solutions are industry-leading in performance, scalability, and robustness.

BU Overview

Consumer, network, and data center applications change at an exponential pace and the Data & Devices (D&D) business unit at TE Connectivity is at the heart of a continuously expanding connected life. Accordingly, we provide responsive, iterative, and fundamentally agile capabilities and conceive, design, and manufacture to support today's demands. Our customers are building the devices and the infrastructure that is redefining what information technology means. Our products push markets and meet the ever-changing needs of the evolving, more connected, data-driven world. We are enhancing how we do business, focusing on the most important things and staying agile and responsive to the needs of a faster, more connected world

The Mechanical Center of Excellence (ME COE) plays a critical role in shaping the future of thermomechanical design, reliability engineering, and platform-based product development. By integrating advanced mechanical research, simulation, and manufacturability expertise, ME COE empowers faster, more scalable, and more robust innovation across TE’s high-speed connectivity and AI infrastructure portfolios.

What your background should look like:

Responsibilities

  • Define the vision, roadmap, and charter for the ME COE in alignment with the CTO organization’s strategic objectives.
  • Lead a global team of mechanical engineers, simulation experts, and reliability specialists focused on innovation, platform development, and design enablement.
  • Oversee the deployment of advanced FEA and CFD methodologies—covering both implicit and explicit approaches—for thermomechanical, structural, and dynamic analysis.
  • Champion the translation of complex product requirements into simulation-ready models using tools such as Ansys Workbench, LS-DYNA, HyperMesh, Simufact, and Digimat.
  • Establish and drive mechanical design standards, review protocols, and platform-based architecture for high-speed connectors and system-level assemblies.
  • Collaborate with Advanced Manufacturing Process (AMP), Advanced Development Team (ADT), Product Development, and System Architecture teams to co-optimize mechanical designs for manufacturability, scalability, and reliability.
  • Guide material selection and evaluation efforts, focusing on high-performance polymers, composites, thermal interface materials, and emerging joining techniques.
  • Support rapid prototyping, tooling engagement, and design-for-manufacture efforts from early-stage concept through production readiness.
  • Lead root cause analysis efforts and define test strategies for mechanical robustness including thermal cycling, vibration, shock, and fatigue.
  • Develop internal communities of practice, training programs, and knowledge-sharing platforms to elevate mechanical expertise across TE.
  • Represent TE in internal strategy reviews and external technical forums to influence mechanical design direction and industry standards.

Required Skills/Experience

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 12+ years of engineering experience in interconnects, electronics, or high-reliability systems, including 5+ years in a leadership or functional management role.
  • Proven track record of leading mechanical engineering organizations, driving cross-functional alignment, and delivering innovation at scale.
  • Deep knowledge of mechanical simulation, including expertise in FEA, CFD, and multi-physics tools such as Ansys, LS-DYNA, HyperMesh, Simufact, and Digimat.
  • Strong background in DFM/DFA, tolerance stack-up, and transitioning designs into high-volume manufacturing.
  • Experience with material selection, mechanical architecture development, and platform reuse strategies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, stakeholder engagement, and technical decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and mentor high-performing technical teams across geographies.
  • Familiarity with reliability engineering practices and validation methodologies for mechanical performance.
  • Effective communicator with experience presenting to executive audiences and collaborating across matrixed organizations.

Nice to have Skills/Experience

  • Ph.D. in Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience with micro-mechanics, co-packaged optics, or liquid cooling solutions.
  • Familiarity with data analytics, Six Sigma methodologies, or AI-driven simulation optimization.
  • Experience working on system-level hardware such as AI servers, switches, or RF modules.
  • Patent filings or published research in mechanical design, thermal management, or materials.
  • Experience managing cross-functional or global engineering projects.
