Job Description:

Job Overview

The Senior Manager, Quality (Continuous Improvement) is a certified Shainin RedX Master who serves as the organization’s expert in convergent problem solving. In this role, the Senior Manager builds enterprise-wide capability and drives rapid, sustainable resolution of complex technical issues across products, processes, and suppliers within the Digital Data Network (DDN) Business Unit, with emphasis on high‑impact manufacturing sites. The role includes partnering with cross‑functional teams to select and execute high‑value projects based on key metrics, contributing to year‑over‑year improvements and cost savings.

As the Shainin RedX Expert, this leader applies advanced statistical problem‑solving methods to identify the dominant cause (“Red X”) of complex product or process variation. The role focuses on situations where conventional approaches—such as Six Sigma DMAIC—have not effectively isolated the key source of variation. Responsibilities include leading diagnostic experimentation, isolating variables, validating root causes, and implementing robust corrective actions that eliminate chronic defects. Effective RedX experts possess strong experimental instincts, deep manufacturing knowledge, and the ability to conduct iterative, disciplined statistical investigations.

In addition to technical leadership, the Senior Manager / Shainin RedX Master is accountable for developing, deploying, and governing the continuous improvement strategy across the business unit. This includes designing the internal problem‑solving curriculum, managing training/certification programs for engineers and leaders, and integrating Shainin methods with DFSS, DMAIC, and Lean tools to support business objectives.

The Senior Manager also acts as a master coach and mentor, providing strategic problem‑solving guidance across the business unit. They may be assigned to major strategic programs as a Technical Problem‑Solving Expert, supporting teams in data collection, data analysis, and the application of advanced diagnostic tools to resolve complex technical challenges.

Job Requirements

Position Responsibilities:

1. Provide Leadership in Advanced Problem‑Solving

Serve as the business unit’s expert authority on Shainin RedX methodology and convergent problem solving.
Provide leadership and guidance to teams executing variation‑reduction or defect‑elimination projects, ensuring proper method discipline.
Support teams in variable isolation, diagnostic experiment design, and validation of dominant causes (“Red X”)

2. Strengthen Product, Process & Supplier Performance

Guide teams in diagnosing and resolving complex product-, process-, and supplier-related issues.
Support elimination of chronic defects and reduction of variation across manufacturing and design.
Provide expert assistance when traditional approaches—DFSS, DMAIC, Six Sigma—cannot isolate the true root cause.

3. Drive Enterprise Continuous Improvement & Process Excellence

Provide leadership to drive continuous improvement initiatives linked to quality, cost, and operational metrics.
Influence prioritization of high‑value opportunities across sites and functions.
Promote adoption of structured, data-driven methodologies across the DDN organization.

4. Support NPI, Manufacturing & Process Improvement

Support NPI teams by applying convergent problem-solving principles early in the design cycle to prevent variation before launch.
Provide expert guidance to manufacturing teams on improving process capability, stability, and defect prevention.
Drive rigor in data collection, process characterization, and early‑phase experimentation for both NPI and existing manufacturing lines.
Ensure teams apply the appropriate diagnostic tools to improve manufacturability, robustness, and overall process performance.

5. Governance, Standards & Deployment of Shainin RedX  / Continuous Improvement Strategy

Develop, deploy, and govern the Shainin RedX / continuous improvement strategy across the business unit.
Establish standards for methodology application across plants, functions, and engineering teams.
Integrate Shainin approaches with broader enterprise systems such as DFSS, DMAIC, Lean, and QE governance frameworks.

6. Capability Building, Training & Certification

Design, deliver, and manage internal curriculum for engineers and leaders, including certification pathways.
Coach and mentor practitioners to develop strong diagnostic and statistical problem‑solving skills.
Provide assessment and verification of competency readiness for certification.

7. Strategic Cross‑Functional Leadership & Technical Guidance

Serve as a cross-functional technical leader, enabling collaboration across engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, and suppliers.
Provide expert-level coaching to strategic programs and high-impact initiatives, ensuring proper use of data, experimentation, and problem-solving tools.
Support escalated or business-critical issues as the Technical Problem‑Solving Expert, offering independent, objective technical direction.
Influence strategic decision‑making by bringing structured, evidence‑based thinking across diverse technical and functional teams.

8. Key Deliverables & KPIs

Improved product and process capability, demonstrated through sustained increases in Cp/Cpk, Pp/Ppk, and overall process stability.
Reduction in chronic defects and cost of poor quality (COPQ), measured by lower defect rates, scrap, rework, and improved yield/throughput.
Enhanced organizational problem‑solving capability, shown through increased practitioner trained, stronger competency, and measurable quality/cost improvements influenced by RedX methodology deployment.
