Job Overview

The Sr. Manager of Cable Assembly MPDE will be responsible for industrialization of the DDN business unit’s Over-the-Board (OTB) high speed cable portfolio and contributing to the global manufacturing strategy.  This position will work cross functionally with the Product Management, Product Development, and Operations teams to develop manufacturing technology and processes for OTB cable assemblies to meet performance, quality, and cost expectations. Reporting to the Director of Operations for Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering (MPDE).

The role will impact the business through process technology development and deployment into high volume manufacturing; execution of new product launch at cost to meet market and internal financial needs; and build a global team and culture that responds to environmental changes via continuous learning and experimentation.

Job Requirements

Year 1 Success Factors:

    • Demonstrable leadership of high-speed (greater than 56G/bs) cable assembly manufacturing processes
    • Collaborate with product development teams by providing meaningful DFM to drive efficient manufacturing
    • Drive execution of NPI process for consistent delivery of products on time and at market driven cost
    • Development and execution of long range resource planning and process/automation platform designs
    • Contribute to technology roadmaps for the OTB high speed cable assembly portfolio. 
    • Delivery of a talent roadmap consistent with the long-term business unit operations strategy
    • Build a strong talent pipeline with a focus on talent development and succession planning

 

Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that the MPDE teams for the OTB high-speed cable assembly product portfolio develop the manufacturing process technology needed to meet both near term and next-gen needs in terms of precision, performance, and cost
  • Drive manufacturing cost to market needs by focusing on DFM
  • Work closely with plant operations teams to ensure successful hand-off of new process technology into high volume production and sustaining.
  • Collaborate across disciplines and functions to gain insight into business and operational pain points.  Create value through the deployment of innovation manufacturing approaches and technology.
  • Set relevant and actionable performance goals aligned to the BU strategy with a focus on developing capabilities and increasing efficiency and productivity.
  • Build a strong talent pipeline with a focus on talent development and succession planning
  • Drive new product development effectiveness by structuring and leading your organization in a way that best enables the BU strategy, maximizes resource efficiency and productivity, and provides role clarity and clear lines of accountability.
  • Build a high performing team to support the business now and in the future by identifying organization skillset/role gaps and plans for filling those gaps, assessing talent fit ensuring the right talent is matched to the right roles to meet business needs, and hiring diverse and high performing talent to complement and strengthen the team.
  • Additional responsibilities include interfacing with customers during manufacturing reviews/plant audits, presenting updates/strategy to Sr. leadership team, and mentoring.

What your background should look like

  • Proven experience leading global teams of 25+ engineers/engineering leaders to successfully execute new product launches
  • The successful candidate will have experience leading product/process development organizations and will be familiar with process verification and ramping manufacturing to scale. 
  • Experience in high speed cable assembly or optical products for data center applications is preferred. 
  • BS in ME or EE, MS or greater preferred. High level knowledge of multiple manufacturing domains and business acumen critical to the success of the role (Stamping, plating, molding, soldering, high speed cable, PLC, materials-metal alloys & resins, laser ablation/welding)
  • 10+ years of experience in the high-speed cable, or technically equivalent, market, leading teams to deliver NPI on time and within budget.
  • Demonstratable track record of launch on time/launch at cost from either engineering or operations experience
  • Strong problem-solving skills, solid understanding of statistical/data analysis, and intellectual curiosity
  • Significant experience scaling high speed solutions in manufacturing, including qualification testing, high speed testing, product documentation, across multiple sites
  • Experience with both manual and automated manufacturing process development, including the transition from the former to the latter
  • Proficiency in long range resource planning and manufacturing/automated platform designs
  • Demonstrates sound judgement in working through complex technical issues with ability to clearly communicate actions and impact to stakeholders and management
  • Innovates from a base of traditional approaches and external knowledge to develop solutions
  • Strong collaborator, contributing to BU product leadership as well as engineering functional leadership within TE
  • Strong business acumen with a thorough understanding of the interdependencies across the engineering, operations, plant manufacturing, and product management functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, manage and inspire a diverse global team located in multiple regions and spread across multiple disciplines.
  • Strong collaboration and influencing skills, with a proven track record of forging excellent relationships across organizations and with senior management. Must be able to effectively work with people of all levels, cultures and functional backgrounds.
  • Outstanding communication and presentation skills. A convincing communicator with compelling perspectives that drive engagement and excitement both up and down the organization.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally between 25% - 50%
