Job Overview

REPORTING AND LOCATION

The Senior Manager will be part of the Corporate Strategy team and report to a Corporate Strategy Director.

This position may be based in most U.S. or Canadian cities within the EST or CST time zones, with a preference for locations within a three‑hour driving distance of TE’s US Headquarters office near Philadelphia, as the Senior Manager is expected to come into the HQ office a few days per month and travel up to 20% of the time to meet colleagues and clients, attend industry events, etc. 

 

ROLE DESCRIPTION AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

As a senior member of the Corporate Strategy team, you will contribute towards shaping TE's portfolio composition, competitive strategy, and performance. The Senior Manager leads a team of strategy analysts. He or she will be responsible for planning and delegating work to team members.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Help identify new growth platforms, growth opportunities within business units, and across businesses – through the identification of attractive market spaces
  • Help the Business Segments and Business Units develop strategies that drive above-market organic and inorganic growth and margin expansion.
  • Effectively translate business requests into well-defined problems
  • Provide project management and thought leadership to project teams; guide and coach Corporate Strategy team members and manage their day-to-day activities
  • Analyze industry structure, competitive dynamics, and market attractiveness and its likely evolution; identify key trends across markets, industries, and competitors; gather real-time input as technology, customer needs, regulations, competitors, etc. evolve
  • Determine what it takes to win, assessing competitive position and business models, and then helping the organizing to align on the strategic direction and execution plan
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and community building for strategy team members; lead key initiatives to develop the talent with Corporate Strategy and the wider strategy community

This is an opportunity for a talented individual who wants to accelerate his or her career within a global corporate strategy team leading to career options within strategy and line roles across TE in the US and abroad.

 

  • Must have at least 6 years of work experience
  • Must have at least 3 years of consulting experience at a global management consulting firm, with at least 6 months of experience as a designated Engagement Manager / Project Leader / Manager or equivalent title
  • Must have team management experience
  • Must be currently working and living in the United States or Canada
  • A degree in engineering or hard sciences is highly desirable
  • Experience with where-to-play and how-to-win Growth Strategy work is highly desirable
  • Experience with product-based industrial manufacturing B2B businesses (e.g. engineered hardware systems or components) is highly desirable   
  • Experienced in solving complex ambiguous strategic problems, building buy-in and alignment and helping plan and drive execution
  • A self-motivated, entrepreneurial, high-energy individual, with vision and enthusiasm, who thrives in a performance-driven environment and sets the bar high
  • Strong communication skills in an open and honest way that builds trust, credibility and respect from team members and senior executives
  • Creative and intellectually curious, with a passion for continuous learning, professional growth and technology
  • Strong executive presence, comfortable thinking on their feet, debating hypothesis, and presenting to audiences varying from C-level executives to entry level associates.
  • Dedicated to the development of all team members, collaborative, team-oriented, and modest - recognizes the accomplishments of the team before those of individuals

  • Business roles with P&L responsibility, such as product management, marketing & sales, operations, and general management.
  • Strategy roles with increasing responsibilities and scope, leading all the way up to Chief Strategy Officer.
