Job Overview

Main target of the product engineer is the magnetic design and simulation for the new product development in the area of position and speed sensors based on sensing technologies, such as Hall effect, inductive and magneto-resistive measuring principles. The magnetic design engineer is participating in sensor design and understands customer requirements and key design parameters. This also requests understanding of mixed signal sensing ICs functionality. The engineer needs to cooperate closely with the customer in order to develop the right solution for the application and assure extraordinary customer experience.

What you will be doing

  • Contribute to the sensor development process in the area of position and speed sensors based on sensing technologies, such as Hall effect, inductive and magneto-resistive measuring principles
  • Lead the technical communication with regards to magnetic sensor applications, interface with the customer to discuss technical requirements, design progress and verification/validation results
  • Design and select magnetic sensor components for the customer application including tolerance analysis considering the variation of magnet behavior by simulations
  • Execute feasibility study especially together with electrical design engineer with post-processing simulation results in mixed signal IC operating modes
  • Create electro-magnetic simulation models of customer application design space
  • Support project execution through participation in design review meetings and core team meetings
  • Contribute to system tests to verify the results of simulations, execute magnet characteristic tests
  • Document models and simulation results in reports and presentations
  • Develop the simulation methods and capabilities in evolutionary steps
  • Observe the magnet material market and support cost and performance improvement activities

What your background should look like

  • M.Sc./PhD in Electrical Engineering and Physics or an equivalent qualification
  • 3 years of professional experience in automotive engineering and strong experience in electro-magnetic simulations (static and transient)
  • Strong knowledge about permanent magnet material behavior
  • Solid experience in electro-magnetic FEA tools, such as Ansys Maxwell
  • Knowledge in sensor system architecture and electronics
  • Ability to set-up of design of experiments and expertise in optimization methods
  • DFSS Six Sigma training and certification would be desirable
  • Basic knowledge in CAD tools, such as PTC Creo
  • Broad technical skillset and ability for systematic problem resolution
  • Good business German and English skills
