Job Overview
This job is under Shanghai Material Lab, Corporate Technology Group of TE Connectivity. The Material Lab is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Staff Engineer to work on material selection, evaluation, application and process development, especially for next-generation high-speed cable applications (e.g. 224G, 448G and higher for AI and data center technologies). This role is critical in identifying, developing, and validating advanced polymer materials and manufacturing processes for wire and cable to meet the demanding performance requirements of high-speed signal transmission.
Key Responsibilities:
- Material Selection and Development: Evaluate, identify, or develop polymer materials suitable for high-speed cable applications, focusing on signal transmission, electrical, EMI shielding, mechanical and thermal performance.
- Process Engineering: Work with the plant to develop and optimize the manufacturing processes including extrusion, foaming extrusion, low pressure molding or other related techniques.
- Material Characterization: Conduct material characterization and performance testing using lab equipment and analytical techniques, as well as using out-source for material properties analysis.
- Technical Problem Solving: Provide professional troubleshooting and root cause analysis for material and process related issues.
- Travel: Domestic and international travel required to support supplier engagement, manufacturing trials, and internal collaboration.
What your background should look like
Qualifications:
- Education: Master’s or Ph.D. in Polymer Science, Polymer Engineering, Composite Materials, Materials Science, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering etc.
- Experience:
-
- Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in polymer materials or process technologies.
- Characterization and development experience on low dielectric constant materials or high-speed cable applications is highly preferred.
- Skills:
-
- Knowledge of polymer chemistry and physics, materials for extrusion, foaming and EMI shielding.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Effective communication and teamwork across global and cross-functional teams.
- Hands-on experience with material characterization techniques.
Preferred Attributes:
- Experience working in a global R&D or manufacturing environment.
- Familiarity with materials for AI/data center applications and signal integrity requirements.
