Job Overview

TE Connectivity (TE) has an opportunity for an Automation Manufacturing Technology (AMT) professional with strong technical and team working capabilities in manufacturing automation solutions in a leading electrical component manufacturing company. The individual shall be an expert to deep dive into and to develop intelligent automation technologies in cable/connector assembly to support TE plants globally. The individual shall also have passion and be experienced in solving the challenging technical problems using creative approaches. 

This is a rare opportunity to join a high performing organization in a new global role, reporting to AMT Fellow and Director, as part of the Global Operations team. This role will be a focal point of TE global manufacturing technical expertise on current leading edge and next generation automation manufacturing technologies. This position will have the responsibility for providing next generation cost effective automation solutions at various TE manufacturing sites worldwide.

Key Responsibilities: 

1.    Participating in creating cross-business automation technology roadmaps to define, innovate, and implement the automation technologies that TE business units will need to be successful. Working with the business units to define and to implement the automation development projects.

2.    Identify the automation opportunities by working closely with the plants, perform DOEs (Design of Experiments) to remove the technical challenges before building the production machine.

3.    Innovate and develop key modules, tooling and jigs for the automation platforms. Using simulation tools for the analytical work is highly desired.

4.    Create automation concept and make proposal options to customers. Simulate the processes and generate data to support the concept design. Make systematic FMEA analysis.

5.    Perform the conditioning for the automation system and optimize the process parameters.

6.    Continually learning and leading automation technologies and market trends.  Match business strategies to seek new automation system design opportunities that may be appropriate for TE.


7.    Significant involvement in manufacturing automation opportunities allowing for the seamless transition of new products to manufacturing facilities

8.    Draft PIDs (preliminary invention disclosures). Working with intellectual property (IP) team on patent applications to strengthen TE IP strategies and portfolios in automation manufacturing technology

What your background should look like:

Key Requirements:

1.    An innovator, and a strong technically oriented automation engineer with clearly demonstrated experience and a track record on innovating creative automation solutions from concept design all the way to implementation on shop floors 

2.    Deep know-how of automation process. 3 years or above experience for automation machine development, including concept design, system proposals and process simulations

3.    3 years or above in mechanical design and/or automation control; Experienced in using PFMEA and DFMEA to analyze problems

4.    Very solid mathematical background, in particular, in vector operations and matrix operations

5.    At least 5 years, for Bachelor degree, or 3 years for Master degree, technical experiences in manufacturing automation with a detailed knowledge of assembly automation

6.    Ability to communicate technical ideas, vision and inspire people at every level to deliver and execute the manufacturing technology

7.    Deep know-how and hands-on experience in manufacturing processes such as cable assembly, connector assembly, soldering, welding, laser, stitching etc.  

8.    Deep understanding of machine vision and integration with industrial robot

9.    Excellent commercial and business acumen with deep experience in analyzing current technologies and capabilities on the market

Minimum Professional Background Desired:

1.    A demonstrated track record of successfully and effectively driving step change in today’s manufacturing through technological improvements

2.    Solid mathematical background, in particular, in vector operations and matrix operations. Solid background in statistics

3.    Willingness to travel as necessary with significant presence in China and other regions

4.    Mechatronics background is preferred

5.    Advanced engineering degree (MS/ME/PhD) strongly preferred
