Job Overview

The Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a group of engineers developing new products or sustaining existing products, and innovative application solutions in conjunction with internal teams (Product Management, Project Management, Sales, Operations).
The Engineering Manager coordinates the deployment of resources to work on engineering projects focused on the development of new products focusing on both general market platforms, derivatives thereof and customer special products. Our Engineering Managers leverage TE global technology to increase competitive position and increased value to our customers. They identify relevant technology trends and opportunities, develop relationships and partnerships with key customers, industry leaders and core suppliers, define and manage IP strategy, assess talent and implement development plans to assure succession planning and organization capability.


1. Drives New Product Introduction design engineering resources and sustaining engineering resources for product lifecycle management. 
2. Drives continuous improvement to reduce NPI cycle time & improve on-time & on-budget delivery of product development.
3. Establishes accountabilities and manages resources to comply with Business Processes and the Quality Management System as they apply to design engineering. Manages engineering resource activities and work packages inline with LEANPD and product sustaining requirements
4. Continuous process improvement to Star 3, 4 or 5 levels in line with business strategy and TEOA / LEANPD
5. Assesses organizational needs, develops strategy for enhancing staff skills, and executes technical succession plans. Full ownership for competency & people development across the engineering team. 
6. Provides hands-on technical leadership through the product/process development cycle and recommends design approaches as required.
7. Manages IP (invention disclosures, patent applications, trade secrets, customer agreements, innovation recognition) associated with the development of innovative new designs.
8. Oversees interaction of design Engineering team with other disciplines (Operations, Product Management, Project Management, Marketing, Quality, Business Development, Corporate Technology, etc.).
9. Manages all aspects of the Life-Cycle Engineering process including:

  • Drives initiatives for sustained engineering, material saving, and cost reduction in close alignment with manufacturing, quality, and purchasing. Drive TEBIT cost out initiatives.
  • Create and maintain fit, form or function of parts within the RDO, including qualification testing, part obsoletion, supplier assessments (with purchasing) etc
  • Perform problem / field failure analyses, as necessary.
  • Provide technical support on pre and post sales products.
  • Provide global field support and training for TE customers and internal stakeholders.
  • Ensure engineering data integrity and accuracy.
  • Deliver and maintain MCI (mass customization index / platforming) performance indicator for the BU.
  • Receive and manage New Product releases at G5 approval.
  • Maintain all REACH, ROHS and environmental compliance updates in CPR.
  • Develop and release product extensions working closely with Product Management.
What your background should look like:

1. Bachelors Degree in an Engineering discipline or equivalent (electrical engineering, mechanical engineering)
2. Ten or more years of experience in R&D engineering or NPD engineering.
3. Five or more years of experience with new product engineering design management and people management.
4. Preferably background in connector product development and manufacturing or industrial device development. Experience in industrial communication technologies a plus. 
5. Experience in developing solutions that have to sustain a harsh environment (Industrial Automation, Process Automation, Rail, Industrial Commercial Transportation, Agricultural machinery, Wind industry, Oil and Gas)
6. Knowledge of relevant performance and test standards for Industrial applications including knowledge of UL, CE requirements. Experience with industry standards activities and support is a plus.
7. Strong analytical skills and with a particular focus on risk identification and management
8. Excellent networking, coaching, interpersonal and written communication skills.
9. Demonstrated ability to effectively organize, prioritize and accomplish multiple tasks, make decisions, and solve problems independently.
10. Experience in working in a global environment is a plus.
