Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Engineering Managers provide leadership for cross functional engineering teams. They work with senior management to define technical road maps aligned with market directions and communicate across other Business Units to share applicable technology. Our Engineering Managers leverage TE global technology to increase competitive position and increased value to our customers. They identify relevant technology trends and opportunities, develop relationships and partnerships with key customers, industry leaders and core suppliers, define and manage IP strategy, assess talent and implement development plans to assure succession planning and organization capability.


Scope and main activities

STRATEGY

-Develop the R&D strategy by promoting innovation in accordance with product line strategy.
-Ensure the definition of "design guidelines" and contribute to the implementation and execution of the Product Line portfolio (PLP) in a long-term strategy (3 to 5 years).
-Write and propose an Intellectual Property right strategy.
-Lead the updating of new technologies and components that will reduce product costs and ensure compliance with demands related to environmental issues.
-Establish regular linkage to industry marketing and field engineers to capture insights and
effectively translate them to innovative new products and applications, utilizing Voice of the
Customer process.
-Be responsible for maintaining and updating the technical documentation of products.

EXECUTION

-Prepare and monitor the R&D budget.
-Manage all aspects of the Life-Cycle Engineering process.
-Drive an injury free, healthy and safe environment. 
-Ensure high quality work is produced by the Engineering teams.
-Drives continuous improvement within the Engineering department to reduce NPI cycle time &
improve on-time & on-budget delivery of product development and TEOA / LEANPD.
-Drive engagement and representation of TE at standards and technical committees.
-Identify and drive capital improvements that aid product development and engineering knowledge.
-Oversees interaction of design Engineering team with other disciplines (Operations, Product Management, Project Management, Marketing, Quality, Business Development, Corporate Technology, etc.).

TALENT

-Manage and develop engineering resources to provide suitably skilled engineers for the
current and future state of the business. Focus on the development of the engineering teams
to continually expand and advance the competencies of the Engineering resource pool in line
with the Technology Road Map.
-Collaborate and work with Project Managers / Program Managers to ensure that the Engineering teams work across organizational boundaries to deliver successful projects.
-Provides hands-on technical leadership through the product/process development cycle and
recommends design approaches as required.
-Represent TE on relevant industry standards bodies, where relevant.

What your background should look like:

Qualifications

• 12+ years leading R&D. Preferable introducing products and solutions that have to sustain into
hash environments.
• Ideally experience in Industrial Automation, Process Automation, Rail, Industrial Commercial Transportation, Agricultural machinery, Wind industry, Oil and Gas.
• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent. MBA preferred.
• Good working knowledge of material science
• System thinker, able to be a sparring partner to development managers and engineers in
working in various domains.
• Excellent knowledge in Lean Product Development principles.
• Strong business acumen - and a good understanding of technical complexes.
• Strong proven Leadership skills. Demonstrated experience in leading and building a diverse
and global team of technical experts, dealing with complex electro-mechanical projects.
• Knowledge and experience working in standard project-execution environment (e.g. PMI)
as well as knowledge of iterative techniques.
• Considerable experience working with the product technology, processes or market.
• Proven ability to deliver results in highly matrix environment.
• Critical thinking and decision making.
• LEAN/Six Sigma certification a plus.
