TE Connectivity is looking for an experienced R&D & Test Engineer for its Transportation Sensors Engineering Organization as part of the Sensor Development Team located in Timisoara Romania. This position reports to the Engineering Manager of the Sensors R&D Team. This person is responsible for the technical development, verification, validation and continuous improvement of sensor products, measurement systems, calibration methodologies and laboratory capabilities according to Quality, Cost and Timing targets requested by the customer and approved by the project organization.The R&D & Test Engineer will lead and contribute to the development of product validation concepts, test methods and calibration solutions required to expand our portfolio of sensor products serving Automotive and Industrial & Commercial Transportation markets. This will require defining measurement concepts, developing and releasing test equipment, specifying laboratory infrastructure, supporting system requirements and implementing robust test methodologies for both product development and manufacturing environments. The R&D & Test Engineer will work closely with Product Development Engineers from Timisoara, Speyer and Bangalore teams, but also with Software Development, Manufacturing Engineering, Quality, Purchasing and other Engineering teams to ensure robust product design, testability and verification throughout the product lifecycle. He/She will interact with global engineering teams and Centers of Expertise to select the appropriate measurement technologies, test approaches and calibration concepts for assigned projects.He/She will be part of the project development team as primary technical contact for product validation, sensor calibration and R&D test activities for assigned projects. The role will require extensive interactions with product development engineers, software engineers, manufacturing engineers, process engineers, quality engineers, customers, suppliers and technical experts across the global Transportation Sensors organization.The R&D & Test Engineer will have to use DFSS methodologies, a structured and systematic approach, system engineering principles and Lean Product Development practices to ensure proper qualification of selected product concepts, measurement systems and test solutions. The ideal candidate would be an experienced R&D and test engineer with strong knowledge of sensors, electronics, measurement systems and validation methods used in sensor products, with experience developing and successfully launching products into the automotive and/or transportation industries.

Your main tasks:

• R&D & Test Engineer is a key member of the cross functional project team of the TE LEANPD, a phase gate product development framework.
• Defines product validation concepts, test strategies and measurement methods for new sensor products leveraging product platforms, test standards, design rules and lessons learned.
• Contributes to the development and validation of sensor products, electronics and system solutions throughout the complete product lifecycle from concept to industrialization and sustaining.
• Defines, documents, evaluates and tracks product, system and test requirements using approved requirements management tools and supports the requirements management process.
• Develops, commissions, verifies and releases sensor calibration and test solutions for R&D laboratory equipment and manufacturing End-of-Line test applications.
• Plans and executes characterization, Design Verification, Product Validation, reliability and environmental testing according to project and customer requirements.
• Designs, specifies and builds laboratory equipment, test fixtures and automated measurement systems required for product development and validation activities.
• Supports the release of test systems, calibration methods and test sequences including verification of measurement system performance and training of product and process development engineers in their use.
• Analyzes measurement data and validation results using statistical methods and provides clear technical recommendations for design improvements, corrective actions and decision making.
• Applies Design For Six Sigma structured methodology leveraging tools such as DoE, MSA, Gage R&R, ANOVA, process capability, DFMEA, PFMEA and risk assessments.
• Supports Functional Safety development activities, hazard analysis and verification of required work products as applicable to the assigned product development project.
• Works with suppliers, internal manufacturing teams and external partners to support prototypes, test equipment, product industrialization and serial production readiness.
• Supports customer claim investigations, technical root cause analysis and verification of corrective actions when required.
• Develops and maintains engineering standards, test procedures, design guidelines, best practices, checklists, templates and lessons learned related to product validation and sensor calibration testing.
• Improves laboratory capabilities and test infrastructure to support current and future R&D driven tests related to performance, environmental properties and product robustness.
• Supports continuous improvement initiatives targeting quality, cost, performance, reliability and standardization of current sensor products and test methods.

Your ideal profile:

• Bachelor or Master’s Degree in a technical discipline such as Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechatronics, Physics, Systems Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in product development, validation engineering, testing, electronics development, sensor calibration, system engineering or related engineering functions.
• Experience with automotive or industrial electronic products including development, validation and testing through the product lifecycle.
• Strong understanding of measurement systems, laboratory testing methods, data acquisition and sensor calibration principles.
• Experience with Design Verification, Product Validation, DFMEA, PFMEA, risk assessments and structured problem-solving methods.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis methods and engineering tools such as DoE, MSA, Gage R&R, Cpk, ANOVA or similar.
• Ability to work in a multidiscipline and global engineering team to develop and improve products, test solutions and development processes.
• Outstanding ability to teamwork focused on commitment, with a goal-oriented way of working and data driven decision approach.
• Proficient in using MS applications and engineering analysis tools.
• fluency in English.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with stakeholders, cross functional teams and subject matter experts.

• Willingness to travel as required, approximately 20-25%.

WE VALUE

• Master’s Degree or PhD in a relevant technical discipline.
• Experience in position, speed, Hall-effect, inductive, magnetoresistive or similar sensor technologies.
• Experience with automotive communication interfaces such as CAN, LIN, SENT, PWM and Analog.
• Experience with requirements management and ALM tools such as Codebeamer, Polarion, DOORS or equivalent.
• DFSS Green Belt, Black Belt or equivalent Six Sigma certification.
• Standards knowledge such as IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 26262, ASPICE or comparable automotive development standards.
• Experience in automated test system development and software-controlled measurement environments.
• Knowledge of electronics design, PCB validation, embedded systems and product integration.
