Job Overview

The Extrusion Portfolio Manager directs, lead, and coordinates the day to day R&D, product development, optimization, and longer-term planning for Extrusion functions. In this role, you will bring a high-energy approach, sense of urgency, and solid focus to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic, growth-oriented environment in addition to have the unique opportunity to utilize your extrusion technical and market knowledge and expertise to create new possibilities in extrusion product development and innovation, process development and operation support in alignment with business short and long term strategy.  

The ideal candidate showcases his/her technical and technology leadership process development, along with program management skills to remain adaptable and ready to shift priorities at a moment’s notice. Including the ability to partner cross-functionally on technology and process roadmap, identify and develop a relationship with key external partners to advance science, build new capabilities, processes, in a global and diverse environment


•    Provide leadership and hands-on management for design, development and manufacture of the extrusion products in a cost-effective and timely manner 
Excellent talent development skills and the ability to advance technology and capabilities, and business partnership globally 
•    Act as the lead technical resource for R&D, manufacturing processes, equipment, and capabilities.
•    Contributes to establishing strategic direction and technology roadmap, works to manage Extrusion Departments outcome and process metrics 
•    Develop, coach, and motivate staff to ensure direct reports are developed in alignment with business goals and objectives.
•    Develop and maintain strong collaborative partnerships with key functions within the business, vendors and staff throughout the company.
•    Determine and support appropriate resources and staff to ensure that milestones are met according to the Company’s goals
•    Interfaces with customers and suppliers on process/tool matters, mold and fixture design, process capability studies, product quality issues
•    Contribute to the continued improvement of the Company’s intellectual property portfolio
•    Develop and manage Extrusion budget
•    Interact with the Manufacturing Departments to ensure that product improvements and changes do not compromise the safety, efficacy, or manufacturability of the Company’s products
•    Directly interfaces with customers
•    Demonstrates and proactively drives performance management, including employee engagement
•    Contribute, review and approval of technical engineering and quality-related documents e.g. protocols, master plans, and reports
•    Drive the creation of Quality and Continuous Improvement initiatives which enable functional area and site to meet or exceed plan

What your background should look like:

•    Minimum ten years of experience in engineering and/or manufacturing in the medical devices or regulated environments  
•    Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in engineering or Minimum of 15 years in the field of medical devices with at least ten years in the senior management level
•    Strong technical skills related to extrusion technology, processes, equipment selection, and function 
•    Demonstrated leadership in providing integration of activities and information across multifunctional groups and matrix teams is required
•    Knowledge of phase gate process Product Development and Technical Manufacturing Operations functions, systems and procedures experience 
•    Ability to champion team productivity and cohesiveness and to work collaboratively to execute, deliver and get results through the various matrix teams is required
•    Understanding of statistical process control
•    Understanding of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) requirements and European medical device regulations, including MDD, ISO9001, and EN46001 desirable
