Extrusion Engineering Technician

Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Manufacturing and Process Development Engineering Teams significantly impact LEANPD driven new product development projects, driving for excellence in existing manufacturing technologies and methods and striving to implement new manufacturing technologies to provide improved process and tolerance control. They act as the binding element between product development and manufacturing engineering, ensuring the effectiveness and efficiency of this critical interface. They support Product Development in the optimization of designs and piece parts for manufacturability by realizing sample tooling/products/prototypes. They also design, develop, and qualify tooling and processes to meet TE quality and production standards, document all processes and tooling in applicable TE systems, support supply chain to verify supplier compliance and capability, initiate and implement programs to continuously improve quality, cost and cycle time and adhere to all appropriate specifications, regulatory requirements and customer requirements.

 

The Research & Development Technician III is responsible to work as part of a team assembling medical device products through conducting analysis, building models and prototypes, producing reports, and performing various experiments while maintaining high quality / performance standards on all TE Connectivity Medical products. 

What your background should look like

•    High School Diploma or equivalent is required.  Completion of an AA degree or equivalent is preferred though not required.
•    A minimum of 5 years of related work experience
•    Experience and/or training in extrusion assembly, working with different types of medical tubing, or other similar small parts in a manufacturing environment is preferred
•    Ability to read, write and speak proficiently in English
•    Fully proficient in applying established standards, understands implications of work and makes recommendations for solutions.
•    Requires considerable judgment and initiative to accomplish tasks.
•    Experience in metrology preferred
 

What you will be doing

•    Serves as subject-matter expert in extrusion, measurement, and use of equipment used for measurement.
•    Serves as SAP and Change Plan user; with ability to develop to superuser
•    Determines and communicates needs for tools, people, and resources to meet production demands. May adapt procedures, techniques, and/or equipment to meet job requirements.
•    Actively participates in projects as required and works with cross-functional teams. 
•    Processes extrusion requests.
•    Inspects product according to approved methods and standards using appropriate equipment.
•    Collects and packages product according to approved standards.
•    Completes and submits all documentation via paper or electronic means. 
•    Identifies data sources and collects, organizes, and measures data in a manner that ensures quality control.
•    Creates and modifies detailed drawings & drafting of conceptual models from layouts, rough sketches or notes and contributes to design modifications to facilitate manufacturing operation or quality of product.
•    Supports detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp.
•    Conducts feasibility studies and testing on new and modified designs.
•    Provides required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D production drawings, product specifications, manufacturing procedures, and testing requirements.
•    Supports qualification of suppliers for new products to ensure delivery of quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes.
•    Under the direction of an Engineer, performs technical research tasks in support of quantitative and qualitative projects in extrusions.
•    Performs validation testing and interprets results for reporting.
•    Keeps detailed logs of ongoing trials/tests.
•    Assists in training, assigning, and checking work to employees to meet goals.
•    Works under minimal supervision, referring only very complex issues to higher levels.
•    Independently partners with suppliers for component quoting procurement and tracking.
