Product Development Engineer - R&D

Job Overview

 

 

We are looking for an experienced engineer to support a wide variety of medical device development programs in Plymouth, MN.  This individual will play a key role in developing and development and commercializing key components used in transcatheter valve delivery systems, cardiac electrophysiology mapping and ablation catheters, complex steerable sheaths, and many more.

 

Key Responsibilities:  

  • Role involves  technical interface with customers on a wide variety of device development programs.
  • Work in cross-functional teams on all elements of development programs, from customer inputs, concept prototyping, development, testing and customer/field feedback. 
  • Establishing and executing engineering studies, capability assessments and characterization efforts.
  • Apply broad engineering knowledge to the design of new products and product enhancements.  
  • Assignments may begin as initial concepts based on user needs and evolve into "hands-on" prototyping to gain clinical design feedback
  • Generates reviews and approves engineering change orders
  • Create and maintain project files and other relevant documentation to comply with quality standards and regulatory requirements. 
  • Leverages ongoing development project technologies to transfer between and aligned efforts throughout the catheter manufacturing division. Reviews test procedures and plans prior to implementation, conducts failure analysis and inspection on products, processes and materials Independently evaluates, selects, and applies standard engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria, using judgment in making adaptations and modifications.

What your background should look like:

 

Key Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering, in related field (Mechanical/ Materials / Bio Engineering Preferred), and minimum 3 years' experience
  • Proficiency with root cause and statistical analysis tools
  • Proficiency with mechanical CAD (SOLIDWORKS preferred)
  • Depth of knowledge in Catheter manufacturing or related technologies
  • Demonstrated ability to support technical interface with customers in device development
  • Independent initiative to be a critical thinker with an appetite for problem solving
  • Collaborative interpersonal skills to manage projects and achieve results
  • Experience working with project teams in phase-gate development programs
  • Experience with engineering tools such as DOE and FMEA
  • Experience with Design For Manufacturability
  • Experience with Six Sigma (DFSS), Process Validation, and measurement methods
  • Familiarity with tooling & fixture design
  • Identify, initiate, and drive projects to completion
