Job Overview
The NPI (New Product Introduction) Supply Chain Manager serves as the critical link between product development and mass manufacturing, ensuring a seamless transition from concept to commercialization. This role leads the end-to-end supply chain workstream for new product introductions, driving cross-functional alignment, supports supplier readiness, Bill of Materials (BOM) integrity, and risk mitigation throughout the product development lifecycle. The ideal candidate combines strong project management skills with deep supply chain expertise to deliver successful product launches on schedule, within budget, and at target quality levels.
Job Responsibilities
New Product Introduction (NPI) Leadership
• Lead the supply chain workstream for new product introductions from concept development through commercialization and manufacturing handoff.
• Develop and manage NPI supply chain project plans, milestones, deliverables, and launch readiness activities.
• Collaborate closely with Engineering, Product Management, Operations, Quality, Manufacturing, and Procurement teams to ensure launch success.
BOM and Material Readiness Management
• Own BOM health throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and alignment with sourcing strategies.
• Drive timely component selection, qualification, and release activities.
• Monitor engineering changes and assess impacts to supply chain readiness, cost, inventory, and manufacturing execution.
Supplier Readiness and Development
• Support the evaluation of supplier capabilities, capacity, and readiness by partnering with Procurement, Supplier Quality, Engineering, and Operations teams to identify launch-related risks and gaps.
• Assist with supplier onboarding, qualification, tooling, sample builds, and production ramp activities by helping coordinate inputs, timing, and cross-functional follow-up.
• Monitor supplier readiness milestones and support tracking of key metrics, helping ensure visibility to supplier progress, risks, and launch commitments for quality, cost, and delivery.
Risk Management and Mitigation
• Identify, assess, and proactively mitigate supply chain risks related to materials, suppliers, logistics, capacity, and product transitions.
• Develop contingency plans and alternate sourcing strategies to minimize launch disruptions.
• Lead risk reviews and provide clear escalation paths for critical issues.
S&OP Linkage and Forecast Alignment
• Ensure clear linkage between NPI activities and the S&OP process, including visibility to demand forecast assumptions, launch timing, ramp volumes, and corresponding supply response plans.
• Partner with Commercial, Product Management, Supply Planning, Manufacturing, and Operations teams to ensure assumptions driving the forecast are clearly communicated, understood, and documented.
• Align demand expectations with manufacturing site readiness, capacity plans, material availability, and supplier constraints; where demand and supply assumptions differ, ensure gaps, risks, and decision points are transparent.
• Escalate capacity constraints, supply risks, or site readiness concerns identified through communication with manufacturing sites and cross-functional planning teams.
• Maintain regular communication with manufacturing plants to confirm deliverables, timing, site readiness, and escalation needs to ensure launch activities remain on schedule.
Cross-Functional Project Management
• Facilitate communication and alignment across global stakeholders.
• Drive accountability through regular project reviews, status updates, and executive reporting.
• Manage dependencies, critical paths, and issue resolution to support product launch timelines.
• Proactively challenge assumptions, speak up when risks or issues are observed, and drive timely resolution to keep projects on track.
Commercialization and Manufacturing Handoff
• Ensure supply chain readiness for pilot builds, validation builds, and production ramp-up.
• Coordinate the transition from development to sustaining operations.
• Verify that processes, suppliers, inventory strategies, and operational controls are established for successful high-volume manufacturing.
