Trade Compliance Specialist

Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Trade Compliance Teams interpret laws, rules, and regulations regarding shipping and prepare applications for import/export control certifications and licenses.

Position Summary: Assist in the planning, organization and implementation of company or corporate policies and procedures that ensure effective compliance to all applicable export regulatory requirements.  Areas of knowledge include but are not limited to jurisdiction & classification, export licensing, technology control plans, facility management, technology marking and transfers. Works directly with the business unit departments to implement and embed key elements of the TE Aerospace Defense & Marine trade compliance program.

Major Job Functions:

A. Product and Technology Classification
    • Work with appropriate personnel to determine ITAR and EAR jurisdiction and to determine appropriate export classification (USML category or ECCN) for both hardware and technology.
    • Manage and oversee the integration of the jurisdiction and classification program relative to the classification of product, technology and services.
    • Responsible for classifying assemblies and components according to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule and updating classifications when the tariff schedule is revised.
    • Coordinate with vendors on commodity classification determinations. 
    • Prepare Commodity Jurisdiction and Commodity Classification requests as needed. 
B. Technology/Technical Data Handling
    • Experience in the marking, handling, export, re-export, transfer, and storage of technical data/technology.
    • Implement the AD&M marking policy working with AD&M program managers, engineering, document control and IT.
    • Creation of data transfer policy and process including transfer log/database design and internal storage.
    • Assist with analysis, advice, and guidance on technical data/technology migration.
    • Facility Management experience including Technology Control Plans
C.    Policies and Procedures
    • Assist in the development and implementation of AD&M international policies and procedures.
    • Assist in the development of work instructions and function specific tools.
    • Assist in the development of a technology transfer policy including requirements, standard work, and training
D.    Export Documentation
    • Advise on all transfers of technical data/technology.
    • Strong working knowledge of export documentation.
    • Advise and assist company shipping personnel with hardware export requirements.
    • Advise and assist on all off-line export shipments.
E.    Recordkeeping and Audit
    • Responsible for ensuring that all regulatory and TE recordkeeping requirements are met
    • Assist in coordination and implementation of periodic audits of company records for compliance with applicable regulations
    • Provide technical advice and guidance relative to safeguarding of data related to controlled products, technology and services. 



•    Four-year degree in business, finance, engineering or related technical field. 
•    5-7 years of experience in international trade compliance related to export and import activities.
•    Strong working knowledge of import and export regulations including expert knowledge of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), the U.S. Import Regulations (19 CFR), and the International Traffic and Arms Regulations (ITAR) as well as others that may apply.
•    Strong jurisdiction & classification skills.
•    Position requires strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills, written and oral.
•    Demonstrated experience leading and driving organizational change
•    Computer skills and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
•    Other duties as assigned.
•    Able to travel as required.
•    Able to re-locate as required.    

•    Applicants will need to have expert skills in Jurisdiction & Classification of hardware and technical data/technology and will be tested on those skills.
