Job Overview

TE Connectivity's Aerospace Defense & Marine Division is currently seeking a highly motivated Manufacturing Development Engineer to provide the engineering design, development, and implementation of the next generation of manufacturing technologies. Manufacturing Development supplies the quick turn capabilities needed for prototypes and customer samples. To build tooling to verify products and processes and meet customer ramp up schedules. To arrive at cost effective solutions by supporting lean design for six sigma process through simultaneous engineering teams. In summary, to work closely with development engineering and operations on the release and sourcing of cost effective new products.
 

The Manufacturing Development Engineer is a key member of simultaneous engineering teams and is responsible for the development and resolution of problems encountered in the manufacturing process of bringing new products from concept to market. The duties include the assembly of components, conception of changes to solve tool problems and work simplification of new products to reduce costs and increase overall manufacturing efficiency.

 

The candidate must be familiar with manufacturing principles such as high speed assembly, machining, stamping, plating, bonding, and molding.  Must be able to work as a team member with remote sites and outside vendors. Individual to be a self-starter and require minimum supervision, having excellent time management skills and the ability to work well under schedule pressures and balance priorities is essential. The Manufacturing Development Engineer must have strong written and oral skills as they will be required to interface with team members, suppliers, customers and sales. This opportunity will provide experience developing advanced skills in hands on engineering, design for manufacturing, six sigma, project management and lean manufacturing.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

Primary responsibilities include:
1.  New process development, including process documentation and qualification

2.  Apply extensive knowledge to the design, build and procurement of assembly tooling

3.  Initiating/managing capital equipment projects; specifying and implementing new manufacturing equipment.

4.  Analyze yield and process data 

5.  Setting-up manufacturing procedures; resolving customer's complaints

6.  Resolving tool and design problems as related to assembly of components

7.  Suggest design changes of new products to reduce costs and overall manufacturing efficiency

8.  Must be able to work in a hands-on environment

9.  Must have good time management skills to work on numerous projects simultaneously

10. Be capable of estimating process costs based on non-production drawings

11. Arrive at cost effective solutions by supporting Lean Design for Six Sigma

12. Work with Global Simultaneous Engineering team. Including multiple US locations, France, England and India

13. Willing to transfer programs to multiple US sites, Mexico and India

14. Must be familiar with the PFMEA process

15. Ability to use Microsoft Project and Excel and MiniTab.

16. Establish optimal equipment and development advancements by performing DOEs and analyzing process and equipment capabilities.

 

Experience:

  • Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering Degree plus 5 years of experience is preferred.
  • Experience with machine and equipment design, development, and manufacturing deployment.
  • Competency with ACAD or 3-D modeling software.
  • Sound project management skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office Software such as Excel, Word and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of six sigma and lean manufacturing tools.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Capability to work in a fasted paced, dynamic global environment with multiple changing priorities.
  • GB or BB in Six Sigma Process preferred
  • Knowledge in mil-aero products is desirable but not a requirement.
