Job Overview

The project engineer is responsible for all aspects of the development, prototyping, and implementation of the RFO contributions to focused cross AD&M BU development efforts.  As such, this individual is the single point of contact for the assigned projects and will be responsible for the project from inception thru deployment.  This position will report to the RFO lead Manufacturing Development Principle Engineer with dotted line to HPG PMO.

The Project Engineer’s objective is to successfully and effectively identify, organize and execute the project development tasks, achieving timelines and staying within the cost estimate, while working closely with Product Management, Sales, Manufacturing Development, Operations, and other functions.


•    Lead RFO project engineering contact to achieve defined project objectives.
•    Develop & execute project’s fiber optic connector, harness and prototyping tasks and (as needed) gap closure plans. 
•    Hands on participation in engineering design and product concept prototyping efforts for harsh environment avionic multi fiber harnesses.
•    Establish and maintain project scope throughout the project lifecycle, including initial setting of scope, and scope change management.
•    Establish and maintain an accurate project schedule based on commitment from Core team members, customer, and all project stakeholders.
•    Participate in Gate reviews to vertical management and possibly BU management 
•    Manage project scope, schedule, and budget for project(s) 
•    Utilize project systems or Excel to manage project plans, data, and actions.
•    Assure project tasks are completed in accordance with cross BU project objectives as they evolve during the project. 
•    Identify necessary additional project resources, when needed. 
•    Conduct status meetings with internal team and external customers.
•    Proactively identify & resolve risks & issues and establish escalation path on all project tasks.
•    Conduct costing reviews of various proposed harness solution approaches.
•    Meet all established project deadlines.  Regularly keep management informed of problems, issues, and status of on-going projects.
•    Develop and maintain positive customer relationships. Undertake other tasks and duties that are within the capability of the individual

What your background should look like:

•    Due to ITAR regulations, current US citizenship or US Lawful Permanent Residency (green card) is required to apply for this position.  
•    Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Mechanical / Opto-Mechanical Engineering or a related subject.  Master’s degree preferred.   
•    A minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in the design and manufacture of fibre optic (FO) assemblies and components is preferred. 
•    Experience with design and test of ruggedized FO connectors and harnesses for harsh environments in defense and/or aerospace applications is preferred. 
•    Knowledge of manufacturing principals related to single & multi-fiber termini and harness assembly and cable management is preferred. 
•    Basic knowledge of industry standard environmental and mechanical performance of optical connectors.
•    Basic knowledge of optical manufacturing principles such as cable termination to various single fiber and multi fiber optical connectors.
•    Understanding of optical communication system functions is desirable but not required.
•    Experience in leading key project/product development
•    Travel - domestic and international (10-20%)
