Job Description:

Job Overview

As a member of the Digital Data Networks (DDN) business within TE Connectivity, you will play a key role in enabling next‑generation interconnect, connector, and advanced electronics technologies through rapid prototyping and micro‑scale manufacturing. This role is responsible for leading and evolving rapid prototyping and advanced manufacturing capabilities that support early‑stage R&D, new product introduction (NPI), and scalable manufacturing solutions for high‑speed datacom, telecom, and emerging applications.

Job Requirements

  • Own end to end prototype execution for advanced development engineering, ensuring delivery within an aggressive turnaround time
  • Manage and lead a team of internal prototyping resources including equipment, technicians, engineers, and lab/shop infrastructure
  • Establish and maintain a hybrid make/buy strategy, optimizing use of internal prototyping capabilities and external fabrication and assembly partners
  • Balance speed, quality, and cost while supporting multiple concurrent prototyping efforts
  • Ensure appropriate tooling, fixturing, inspection methods, and process controls are in place for prototype builds
  • Provide early guidance and technical oversight for fine‑pitch connector fabrication, precision machining, micro‑assembly, and cable/connector assemblies, ensuring prototypes meet design intent, functional requirements, and downstream manufacturability
  • Effectively lead a team of engineers and technicians of varying levels of experience with different backgrounds, experiences, and cultures
  • Drive high performance by providing your team routine coaching and feedback, holding your team accountable to meet performance objectives, and providing meaningful development to increase individual/team capability
  • Manage employee wellbeing by prioritizing work, effectively managing resource loading, and providing flexibility to enable employees to successfully balance their work and personal lives
  • Ensure compliance with EHS, machine safety, and quality standards within the prototyping environment

What your background should look like

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or a related discipline; Master’s degree preferred
  • 8+ years of relevant experience in fabrication, rapid prototyping, advanced manufacturing, or micro‑scale assembly; experience in connectors/interconnects preferred
  • Minimum 3+ years of progressive people leadership and team management experience, ideally in a regional or global environment
  • Hands‑on knowledge of multiple fabrication methods, including additive manufacturing, laser micromachining, EDM, stamping, plating, and injection molding
  • Demonstrated experience developing processes for very small components, including tolerance management, fixture, alignment, and part handling
  • Experience with joining and assembly techniques such as laser welding, soldering, adhesives, crimping, and precision mechanical assembly
  • Proficient with 3D CAD tools SpaceClaim, AutoCAD, Creo, or equivalent
  • Fluent in English (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to work in a global environment – able to accommodate varying time zones and capable of collaborating with individuals across geographies.
  • Proficient in building and leading a solid team - assessing talent fit (current team and future hires), aligning skills to business needs, identifying skillset gaps needed to strengthen the team, and taking actions necessary to maintain solid team performance
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and ensuring adherence to budgets, schedules, and work plans
  • Demonstrated experience managing external suppliers for rapid manufacturing or prototyping
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills
  • Proficient in leading change in a high-paced and dynamic environment with an understanding of common barriers to effectively managing change
  • Proficient at driving continuous improvement with demonstrated experience implementing best practices to enhance engineering efficiency
  • Familiarity with metrology and characterization techniques (optical microscopy, profilometry, cross‑sectioning/SEM, mechanical testing) and the ability to link micro‑scale variation to functional performance
  • Experience interfacing with suppliers, equipment vendors, and external partners; proven ability to translate R&D learning into scalable and manufacturable processes
  • Collaborative mindset with excellent communication skills and a strong desire to make a hands‑on, positive impact
