Job Overview

The Cyber Defense Engineer is responsible for identifying, designing and implementing controls that protect the assets of the company and providing integration and orchestration of the information produced from those controls.  This includes but is not limited to identifying security threats and vulnerabilities, implementing protective measures and responding to any information security incidents.

 

The Cyber Defense Engineer serves as the primary engineer focused on improving integration between security products and operational workflows.  They will lead the Vulnerability Management program throughout TE. They are responsible for performing the threat modeling, control analysis, control design and roadmap for that category.  They lead security projects, designs solutions, consult with other IT teams to provide secure designs, create best-practices and guidelines, manage themselves and teams to their roadmaps, etc.

 

Cyber Defense Engineer Responsibilities

  • Manage Vulnerability Management Program (Qualys):
    • Manage asset inventory and scan schedules through API automation
    • Develop reporting to be used by infrastructure teams to patch on risk based priority
    • Integrate workflows with ServiceNow and Security Operations
  • Automate and integrate security technologies through APIs and custom scripts
  • Implement new security controls as required for regulatory compliance
  • Evaluate new technologies and provide guidance on architecture and strategic direction
  • Endpoint and server hardening through configuration and group policy
  • Provide Level 3 support to identify root causes of complex issues
  • Threat hunting / analysis
  • Work with SOC / Cyber Intelligence teams to convert threat data into useful detection
  • Subject Matter Expert for escalations from Service Desk / Service Delivery / Security Operations Center
  • Stay up-to-date on security trends, malware techniques, and industry standards
Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years IT experience implementing enterprise-wide endpoint security.
  • Experience with security incident detection and response tools and processes, including other internal and external investigating organizations.
  • Experience with Vulnerability and Patch Management
  • Demonstrated experience with at least one programming/scripting language (Python, Ruby, Powershell, etc.)
  • Demonstrated experience in understanding networking technologies and protocols
  • Demonstrated systems administration experience with Windows and Linux/UNIX-based operating systems
  • Experience in a technology-planning role.
  • Must have technology passion and staying current with emerging security trends.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication and presentation skills.
  • Experience with new technology evaluations, software package selection and buy vs. build analysis.
