Job Overview
TE Connectivity’s R&D/Product Development Engineering Team conceives original interconnect ideas and solutions for the challenges encountered in the harsh environments found in aerospace and defense applications. A well-balanced role, exposed to a wide range of fields providing deep insight on design, manufacturing, and testing of mechanical and electronic components and systems, the team is responsible for new product development and qualification from market definition through production release; assist in the qualification of suppliers to ensure suppliers deliver quality parts, materials, and services for new or improved manufacturing processes; conduct feasibility and manufacturability studies, testing on new, modified and optimized designs; direct and support detailed design, testing, prototype fabrication and manufacturing ramp. The R&D/Product Development Engineering Teams provide all required product documentation including, but not limited to, Solid Model, 2D/3D production drawings, products specifications, and testing requirements.
Job Requirements
As a Staff R&D/Product Development Engineer on our North America Connectors team, within the Aerospace, Defense & Marine business unit, your responsibilities will be:
- Understand customer requirements and their technical roadmaps
- Understand and keep abreast of market trends and industry standards
- Direct interface with development engineers, customers, new business development and product managers, sales, manufacturing engineering, test lab, model & pre-production shop resources.
- Drive customer and supplier communications
- Lead technical product development of judicious projects from market definition through production release
- Exercise influence within the department as technical & engineering tool lead and mentor, driving technology and product decisions
- Concept new products using engineering tools to create 3D CAD models and work with cross functional teams to jointly refine into manufacturable, cost-effective products.
- Perform engineering analysis including mechanical simulations on key features and components.
- Create 2D Drawings with geometric dimensions and conduct tolerance analysis to ensure design intent can be achieved,
- Write specifications and technical documentation including design objectives, application guidelines, validation test plans, and qualification reports.
- Coordinate and support the creation of engineering prototypes and customer samples, formalizing features as needed.
- Work with manufacturing to reconcile dimensionally measured products to 2D drawings.
- Coordinate validation and qualification testing on products to ensure design objectives are met.
- Conduct failure analysis as needed using tools such as CT scans, cross sections, and tear downs to find the root cause for issues and implement solutions.
- Maintain engineering documentation and history files.
- Keep account to the project team on deliverables including honoring timeline commitments.
What your background should look like
You’re the kind of person we are looking for if you have:
- Have a BA/BS degree or higher in mechanical engineering, from an accredited college or university
- 8+ years mechanical engineering product development experience (or relevant work experience)
- Engineering experience in connector industry strongly preferred.
- Participation in full product development cycle from establishing customer requirements to production release.
- Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAD applications, PTC Creo preferred, Ansys SpaceClaim beneficial.
- Demonstrated proficiency in 3D CAE simulation applications, Ansys preferred.
- Ability in geometric dimensions and tolerances and tolerance analysis.
- Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes including stamping, molding, plating, and assembly.
- Design for manufacturing (DFM) to address customer requirements including mechanical, environmental, electrical, manufacturing, and cost.
- Strong interpersonal communication and cross functional teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in a global environment

- Knowledge of Quality Standard ISO 9100
- Familiarity with Connector Industry standards – VITA, SAE, MIL-DTL

COMPENSATION
• Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $143,000 - $190,000 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
• Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
• Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
