Job Overview

 

The Connected Living Solutions (CLS) business unit is seeking a highly motivated and skilled R&D/Development Engineer to join our product development team in Harrisburg, PA.  In this role you will work with the global TE team to develop the requirements, customers and ultimately the next generation electrical interconnect products that are needed within the outdoor LED lighting, appliance and HVAC market spaces.  The need for cost effective, robust interconnects for use in harsh settings provide a challenge and opportunity for the right candidate. The R&D/Development Engineer will be responsible for the new product development of various connectors in support of existing product line expansions as well as products to support developments in new growth market focus areas.  The engineer will be part of a fast-paced environment to gather customer requirements, generate product concepts, organize rapid prototype samples, and clearly communicate designs internally and externally to key stake holders within the development process.  The ideal candidate will possess and apply considerable knowledge of product design principals, practices, and procedures, including understanding of manufacturing technologies such as stamping, plating, molding, assembly, and machine application. The role will involve working globally with Sales, Product Management, Project Management, Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, plant Quality and outside vendors to ensure smooth release and maintenance of parts. The Engineer will also work directly with TE’s suppliers in support of New Product Introductions and to help drive resolution of Sustaining Engineering activities.

 

Key responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following: 

 

⦁    Understand Mechanical, Electrical, Environmental, and other requirements to design and develop next generation electrical interconnect products to support the team’s focus within Outdoor LED Lighting and harsh environment connectivity.
⦁    Handle all aspects involved in New Product development process from initial requirements gathering to production phase
⦁    Generate concepts and detail designs using development methods such as DFMEA, Tolerance Analysis, DFSS, etc.
⦁    Coordinate the execution of design validation product testing and certification according to international standards
⦁    Design and documentation of precision stamped and molded electro-mechanical component assemblies
⦁    De-risk product design by initiating and/or performing FEM and support analysis for critical items
⦁    Engage directly with customer(s) to clearly present designs for technical review and comment
⦁    Optimize product designs for cost-efficient and high-quality manufacturing (DFM)
⦁    Utilize Design to Value (DTV) methodology to optimize product cost to increase product competitiveness
⦁    Review and comment on First Article Approvals, Process Capability Studies, 8D reports and other quality product analyses
⦁    Work with Product Lifecycle Management and Engineering documentation and change management systems
⦁    Engage with multi-functional global project teams consisting of Sales, Product Management, Project Management, Operations/Manufacturing, Quality, Global Product Approvals and Outside Vendors.
⦁    Troubleshoot design issues during testing and production startup. 
⦁    Domestic travel may be required.

Key Qualifications, Experiences & Knowledge: 

 

⦁    Proven experience using 3D CAD design tools.  Creo experience is a plus 
⦁    Experienced in Microsoft Office applications.
⦁    Knowledge of LEAN Product Development Cycle and Processes
⦁    Experienced in design of small plastic or metal components.  
⦁    Basic knowledge in the selection of plastic or metal base materials and evaluation of material properties
⦁    Demonstrated knowledge and use of finite element modeling/analysis to enable design refinement.  Ansys experience a plus.
⦁    Ability to interact with customers to gather needs, transfer into technical requirements and deliver conceptual solutions. 
⦁    Ability to communicate effectively and accurately across multi-cultural groups
⦁    Should be Self-Motivated, Adaptive, Passionate about results and a Good Team Player
⦁    Strong technical aptitude with willingness to learn new technologies quickly
⦁    Demonstrated experience of working in a fast-paced/changing environment with ability to work to tight deadlines and changing priorities and multiple projects.
⦁    Knowledge of Global Certifications and Regulatory Standards (UL, IEC, etc.) is an added advantage
⦁    Fluent Communication and Presentation skills in English 
⦁    Knowledge in Basic Quality techniques and engineering change management 
⦁    Experience in design of experiments/test plan development to support design validation activities
⦁    3-5 years minimum experience working in an engineering capacity & Bachelor’s Degree in engineering field (Mechanical Engineering preferred)

COMPENSATION
•    Competitive base salary commensurate with experience: $89,000 – 132,000 (subject to change dependent on physical location)
•    Posted salary ranges are made in good faith. TE Connectivity reserves the right to adjust ranges depending on the experience/qualification of the selected candidate as well as internal and external equity.
•    Total Compensation = Base Salary + Incentive(s) + Benefits
