Global Commodity Manager

Job Overview

The Aerospace Defense and Marine (AD&M) business of TE Connectivity are leaders in the development and engineering of a comprehensive portfolio of connectors, fiber optics, wires, cables, antennas, circuit protectors and moldings for harsh environments. We have a global customer base with over 6,000 employees to deliver a broad range of solutions. This highly visible position will facilitate, manage, and execute strategic initiatives required to achieve Business Unit objectives.   This person will manage the plating commodity and having experience in this area is desirable.  This position will actively interface with various global Business Unit functional teams (e.g. Engineering, Product Management, Operations and Quality).  The role is a key position within AD&M to focus on improving our supply base performance that will support the sales and profitability growth of our global operations.  The position has four (4) Strategic Sourcing Analysts direct reports to meet quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity goals.  Additionally, the position ensures supplying TE systems, processes and build capabilities to meet the design intent of the customer and are compliant with the end customer’s needs. We believe this is a key element to support the Extraordinary Customer Experience or ECE! 



As the Strategic Sourcing Manager, your responsibilities would include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for defining, executing and monitoring overall global plating strategy including internal and external capacity.  Annual spend is approximately $60 million.   
  • Works with Strategic Sourcing Analysts to gather quotations, examines bids, and makes awards via AD&M Sourcing Councils.  Leads team to performs cost analysis and volume planning for commodity  
  • Leads to team to evaluates vendor reliability, developing new supply sources where required.  
  • Coordinates purchasing activities with manufacturing and engineering departments to balance internal and external capacity.
  • Monitors cost, schedule, and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value. Recommends cost saving proposals including make vs. buy analysis, alternative sourcing, and vendor evaluation criteria.  
  • Develops specifications for new contract orders.
  • Consolidate the numerous suppliers to allow for better pricing leverage, VMI opportunities, Lead Time reductions etc. including proactive engagement with supplier quality, engineering and product and commodity management teams.
  • Improve overall commodity performance especially in the areas of delivery, quality and productivity.

What your background should look like:

  • Motivated individual with the ability to learn quickly and work in a self-directed work environment with minimal supervision
  • A clear communicator who can speak and present confidently to a diverse audience, including senior management
  • Ability to work well in a cross-functional environment and with global team members
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited university in Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, Business, or other related disciplines.
  • Proficient with MS-Office products, SAP background is a plus
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work without restriction
  • Willingness to travel and interact proactively with supplier personnel.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills
  • Strong skills in database creation, spreadsheets, etc. used for creating, managing, and driving sourcing initiatives
  • Familiarity with e-sourcing processes and tools
  • Excellent project management skills
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, task-focused environment
  • Ability to travel up to 50%, including international
  • Plating experience preferred
