Lead Engineering Manager

Job Overview

TE Connectivity’s Engineering Managers provide leadership for cross functional engineering teams. They work with senior management to define technical road maps aligned with market directions and communicate across other Business Units to share applicable technology. Our Engineering Managers leverage TE global technology to increase competitive position and increased value to our customers. They identify relevant technology trends and opportunities, develop relationships and partnerships with key customers, industry leaders and core suppliers, define and manage IP strategy, assess talent and implement development plans to assure succession planning and organization capability.

 

In this position, you will be responsible for leading a group of engineers developing new products or sustaining existing products, and innovative application solutions in conjunction with internal teams (Product Management, Project/Program Management, Sales, Strategic Marketing and Technology).

You will coordinate the deployment of resources to work on engineering projects focused on the development of new products focusing mainly on general market platform products and defining the processes required to support their production. Customer special products and tactical projects will also be in scope, where the business case exists and there is alignment with the strategy.

In addition, you will maintain a focus on research and development to ensure that TE continues to understand what our competitors are doing according to the technology in order to guide and develop your team to a suitable competence level to drive innovation in the chosen market space.


This position will require you to travel internationally. 
 

Main activities

o    Strategy
-    Develop the R&D strategy by promoting innovation in accordance with product line strategy
-    Ensure the definition of "design guidelines" and contribute to the implementation and execution of the Product Line portfolio (PLP) in a long-term strategy (3 to 5 years)
-    Write and propose an Intellectual Property right strategy
-    Lead the updating of new technologies and components that will reduce product costs and ensure compliance with demands related to environmental issues
-    Be responsible for maintaining and updating the technical documentation of product


o    Key Deliverables
-    Manage and develop engineering resources to provide suitably skilled engineers for the current and future state of the business. Focus on the development of the engineering team to continually expand and advance the competencies of the Engineering resource pool in line with the Technology Road Map
-    Prepare and monitor the R&D budget 
-    Full ownership for competency & people development across global engineering team
-    Continuous process improvement in line with business strategy 
-    Drive an injury free, healthy and safe environment
-    Ensure high quality work is produced by the Engineering team
-    Continually improve processes within the Engineering department
-    Drive engagement and representation of TE at standards and technical committees
-    Identify and drive capital improvements that aid product development and engineering knowledge
-    Establish regular linkage to industry marketing and field engineers to capture insights and effectively translate them to innovative new products and applications, utilizing Voice of the Customer process
-    Collaborate and work with Project Managers / Program Managers to ensure that the Engineering team works across organizational boundaries to help deliver successful projects.
-    Manage all aspects of the Life-Cycle Engineering process
-    Represent TE on relevant industry standards bodies, where relevant

 

o    Innovation and creativity 
-    Develop, secure and facilitate innovation process, and ensure key performance indicators (KPIs) are in place to be tracked

 

o    R&D context 
-    Align R&D with Product Management function to define market-oriented R&D projects

 

o    Organization and people development
-    Lead the Technology Centers and PLP R&D Teams and ensures that people processes are in place to enable the appropriate organization, competence and skills to exist or be developed 
-    Guide, motivate and coache team and individuals, both direct and indirect

 

o    Performance targets
-    Ensure achievement of established targets, through oversight and definition of improvement actions as needed. Focus on achievement of Product Cost,
-    Project On-Time and On-Cost (e.g. meeting market requirement specification, R&D cost, Time to Market) and Quality - PPM.).

What your background should look like:

-    University engineering degree (major in mechanical and/or electrical engineering is preferred)
-    Demonstrated experience in growing and leading a diverse and global team of technical experts, dealing with complex electro-mechanical projects
-    Ideally experience in connectors or the industry that has structured compliance regulations and demonstrable experience in introducing products into hash environment
-    Excellent knowledge in Lean Product Development principles
-    Good working knowledge of material science
-    Ability to drive and implement change
-    Strong business acumen
-    Sound technical and commercial networking skills
-    Analytical mindset 
-    Excellent communication and organizational skills and demonstrated leadership
-    Ability to work in a multicultural and multi-site team
-    A negotiation level in French and English will be required
